TR19 Inspection in Kent

TR19 inspection in Kent: how it works

A fixed schedule does not always match how a kitchen really cooks. In a busy kitchen, grease can build faster than the minimum intervals allow for, which is why measurement matters. Our readings give your risk assessment real numbers to work from. Common call-outs are for systems that need surveying before cleaning and systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements, across post-clean checks, wet film thickness tests and insurer audits.

We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system.

  1. First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
  2. The layout is traced from the canopy to the discharge.
  3. Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
  4. We measure the grease and photograph each point.
  5. You get a report and a fixed quote for the clean.

What you will pay

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

Local landmarks in Maidstone

In Maidstone, that means kitchens and buildings near Paper Makers Arms, Maidstone Grammar School and St Philip's Church, among other places. You will also find River Len LNR (under half a mile north-east), South Borough Primary School (within half a mile south) and St Augustine Academy (1.2 miles west). Maidstone’s nearest station is Maidstone West station, about 0.6 miles north-west. Well-known places in the area include Maidstone Carriage Museum (less than half a mile north-west) and Oakwood Hospital (1.8 miles west). Open spaces near Maidstone include Burham Down and Boxley Hills.

TR19 inspection across Kent: local notes

In Kent, we work in places such as Maidstone, Ashford and Canterbury and well beyond. Every place on our Kent list (922 in all) is covered, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.

Much of our work across London and the South East happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so sites across Kent do not have to lose a day. Parts of Kent are on or near the coast, where salt air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings. Fans and cowls on sea-facing roofs are worth checking at every visit.

Maidstone: For schools such as South Borough Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. If you run a café or takeaway near Maidstone West station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.

What we’re called out for in Kent

As hot, greasy air travels up the duct, it cools and leaves a film behind. It often collects where nobody can see it: the plenum, bends and horizontal runs.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Sites with gaps in their extract records
  • Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
  • Post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean
  • Surveys needed before quoting a full clean

Keeping the system healthy

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Send TR19 audit reports to your insurer on request
  • File every inspection report with your certificates
  • Don’t box in or cover duct access panels
  • Diary the next grease test and clean

Each report suggests the next clean and the next test, based on the readings and how the kitchen is used.

Keep filters clean and in place. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.

What TR19 inspection can’t fix

We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Hidden runs that need access panels first
  • The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean
  • Design faults in the extract system

What staff can safely do

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Why act early?

If there’s a fire or a claim, your insurer may ask for TR19 records. Missing records can put a claim at risk. An up-to-date inspection report is a good place to start.

FAQs for Kent

Where does the waste go?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go, so it does not spread.

What does a pre-clean survey involve?

A survey finds out how the system is laid out, how dirty it is and what can be reached, before anyone starts cleaning. Missing access panels are noted so they can be sorted first.

Will you produce a report for our insurer?

Yes. Many insurers ask for proof of TR19 cleaning and inspection, and an audit report gives you that, with recommendations where something needs doing.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

Can the work be done while we’re closed?

Yes, and it’s often the best time. We book the visit for when the area is out of use, such as late evening, overnight or a weekend.

How long does grease testing take?

Testing takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site. Sites with several canopies take longer, and you can call 0345 646 2711 or email us to book it in.

How do you measure grease in a kitchen extract?

WFTT and DTT are the two methods for measuring grease thickness, in microns. Readings are taken at set points through the system.
