TR19® kitchen extract cleaning in Maidstone

Maidstone is the county town of Kent, on the River Medway, with a busy town centre, plenty of pubs and restaurants, and the kitchens that come with a county town: council offices, schools, colleges and a hospital. Each has an extract system that collects grease and needs regular cleaning. We clean kitchen extract to BESA’s TR19® Grease specification across Maidstone and the rest of Kent, including Medway.

We survey first, from photos or on site, then give you a fixed quote, usually within one working day. We clean when the kitchen is closed: evenings, overnight, at weekends or in the holidays. You get a TR19® certificate and a photo report with before and after pictures. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. See kitchen extract cleaning for what a full clean covers.

If you’re not sure when your extract was last cleaned, a TR19 inspection with grease readings shows where you stand. It is a good first step after taking over a lease or a catering contract.

Council, hospital and school kitchens in a county town

Maidstone is home to Kent County Council and Maidstone Borough Council, so there are civic buildings, offices and staff canteens alongside the shops. Maidstone Hospital, schools, colleges and care homes add kitchens that cook every day or to a fixed timetable. School kitchens are cleaned in the holidays, and hospital and care kitchens between the evening meal and breakfast, planned with estates and infection control teams.

Large public buildings often have ventilation and air handling units as well as kitchens, and fire dampers where ducts cross fire-resisting walls and floors. We can clean AHUs and ventilation ductwork and test fire dampers in the same programme as the extract clean.

The town centre has restaurants, bars and pubs around the shopping streets and the riverside, many in older buildings with flats or offices above. Out of town, village pubs across Kent often have kitchens in old buildings, with extract that winds through roof spaces or rear extensions. Our survey finds the whole route, and any section we can’t reach is recorded so access panels can be added.

Kent’s country pubs often trade hardest in summer and at weekends, when food service runs from lunch until late. Grease readings show whether a busy pub kitchen needs cleaning more often than BESA’s minimum for its usual cooking hours.

Food Standards Agency records list about 160 restaurants, cafés and canteens, 66 takeaways, 46 pubs and bars and 1 hotels and guest houses within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Maidstone, plus 40 schools and colleges and 52 hospitals, care and childcare premises. Every one that cooks under a canopy has an extract that needs cleaning. Source: FSA food hygiene rating data, October 2026.

Who inspects Maidstone kitchens

Food businesses are inspected by Maidstone Borough Council’s environmental health team, and elsewhere in Kent by the local council. Officers look at the cleanliness of premises and equipment, extraction included, and ratings are published on the Food Standards Agency’s food hygiene ratings site.

Fire safety in workplaces is enforced by Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which also covers Medway. Its officers carry out audits and can take enforcement action under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsible person, usually the employer, owner, landlord, council or trust, must assess and reduce fire risk, which in a kitchen means keeping grease in the extract under control. GOV.UK’s guide to workplace fire safety explains the duties.

TR19® is not law, but it is BESA’s specification and the benchmark fire officers, EHOs and insurers look to. A certificate and photo report from each clean, kept in the maintenance log, is the evidence they will ask for.

In a council or school building, the estates team usually holds the fire safety records. Keep the extract certificates with the fire risk assessment so they are easy to find when the fire service or an insurer asks.

Maidstone’s kitchens

We clean extract for restaurants and pubs in the town and villages, and for hotels. Schools and colleges are cleaned in the holidays, and hospitals and care homes are planned with your estates team. Council and office buildings need ventilation, AHU and damper work. Food production units and leisure sites are covered on food production and leisure. We also clean grease traps and run a grease filter exchange.

Councils, trusts and care groups with buildings across Kent can put them all on one maintenance contract, with each kitchen and ventilation system on its own interval and records. Hospital and care kitchens are cleaned in sections where they can’t close, and school kitchens in the holidays, so no meals are lost. Pub groups and restaurant operators can do the same. Our 24/7 emergency line covers fan failures and urgent cleans between scheduled visits.

How it works

  1. Send details. Tell us about your kitchen or building and send a few photos: canopy, filters, access panels and the last certificate if you have one.
  2. Get a fixed quote. We survey from your photos or on site and give you a fixed price, usually within one working day.
  3. We clean. We arrive when you’re closed, protect the kitchen and clean the system back to bare metal wherever it can be reached.
  4. Certified. You get a TR19® certificate and a photo report, with the readings, anything we couldn’t reach and the next clean date.
