TR19 inspection for sites in Upchurch

Upchurch kitchens: local notes

Upchurch is within about 1 mile of the coast. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. Look up Upchurch on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 4 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 3 takeaways in Upchurch and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Each kitchen extract among them can be measured for grease to set the right cleaning interval. Upchurch is covered by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Medway Maritime Hospital (about 4.5 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. For schools such as Holywell Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Upchurch is about 3 miles east of Gillingham, in Kent. Upchurch gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with pictures. Upchurch is one of 922 towns, villages and districts in Kent where we work for TR19 inspection. You can also see our page for Maidstone, about 9 miles away.

We work across the ME9 and ME8 postcode area for TR19 inspection and the streets around it. We cover sites on The Street, Crosier Court and Horsham Lane and the roads around them. Nearby, we also carry out TR19 inspection in Lower Halstow (1 mile east), Breach (1 mile south), Moor Street (1 mile south-west), Lower Rainham (1 mile west) and Newington (2 miles south-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Maidstone (9 miles south-west), Sittingbourne (4 miles south-east), Gravesend (12 miles west), Faversham (11 miles east), Northfleet (14 miles west) and Minster (7 miles north-east).

About our TR19 inspection in Upchurch

After a clean, post-clean verification checks the result, with fresh grease readings, photos and a look at the areas that were cleaned. It gives you evidence of how the system was actually left. If you are dealing with extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean and kitchens whose menu or hours have changed, we can put it right.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Do you need TR19 inspection in Upchurch?

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers look to TR19® as the benchmark. TR19® itself is not law, but the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and in a kitchen that means keeping grease under control.

Keep an eye out for these warning signs:

  • Missing TR19 certificates or history
  • Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
  • Parts of the system left out of past cleans
  • Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean

Where a hall near Church of St Mary the Virgin, or anywhere in Upchurch, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the price is fixed
  • Proof of insurance
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours

The process

Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. Somewhere as small as Upchurch, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
  2. We open the access points used on the clean.
  3. We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
  4. Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
  5. The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the space around the work
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

Advice

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Upchurch

Who is the fire and rescue service for Upchurch?

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Upchurch. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Do you cover smaller places like Upchurch?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Which accreditations do you hold?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We have been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.

How much notice should we give?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

Do you carry out TR19 audits for insurers?

Yes. Many insurers ask for proof of TR19 cleaning and inspection, and our audit gives a clear record of the system’s condition, along with any actions needed.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.

What do you do to protect the area?

By covering it before any work starts. The work is kept contained and leave the area clean.

Why survey before a clean?

A survey finds out how the system is laid out, how dirty it is and what can be reached, so the clean goes to plan. Missing access panels are noted ahead of the clean.

What happens if it’s left?

Finding a hotspot early means a targeted spot clean rather than a bigger problem later. Ignored, the layer only gets thicker. Planning a trip to Upchurch ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

Honest limits

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Mechanical faults in the extract
  • Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
  • Fire safety duties beyond the extract system

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Access surveys
  • Post-clean checks
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Insurer audits
  • Pre-clean surveys

Different parts, different methods

Vertical risers

Risers carry the extract up through the building. Grease can drain down and pool at the bottom, so the base is a key test point.

Extract fan and discharge

The discharge at the end of the system is checked as well, as grease can build up there too.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Aftercare tips

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted properly
  • Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Do not box in or cover duct access panels

If any reading is 500 microns or more, the report flags it for immediate spot cleaning, and we can quote to do it.

Regular grease readings keep the cleaning interval honest. It shows if build-up is speeding up.
