Kitchen extract cleaning in DA1: how it works
The ducts are where most of the grease hides. We reach horizontal runs and vertical risers through access panels, scraping heavy deposits by hand before degreasing. Any section we cannot reach is recorded on the report and extra access panels can be added. The work covers vertical risers, plenums and filters and horizontal duct runs, and people most often call us about cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey and grease dripping from the canopy or filters.
Each visit runs to the same pattern: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the kitchen extract cleaning, clear away and leave you the report. The visit itself takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time.
- We survey the system first, from your photos and details or on a site visit.
- We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
- Once the kitchen has closed and the equipment has cooled, we sheet and protect the area.
- Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
- We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.
How we quote
A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before any work starts.

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.
What’s near Dartford
Typical jobs here are in premises near The Rose pub, Central Park and Stone Lodge School and the streets around them. Nearby too are Leigh Academy (0.7 miles south-east), Dartford Primary Academy (less than half a mile south-east) and Church of the Holy Trinity (less than half a mile west). Dartford has its own railway station: Dartford station. Nearby you will also find Dartford Library (within half a mile west) and Bluewater (2.1 miles east). Not far away are Wansunt Pit and Sawyers Lake.
Kitchen extracts across DA1
Across DA1, from Dartford, Bexley and Temple Hill outwards, kitchens range from town-centre restaurants and takeaways to pubs, hotels, schools and care homes. Each extract is cleaned to the same TR19® standard, canopy to discharge.
From central London kitchens to coastal hotels and country pubs, London and the South East have every kind of site. The same TR19® standard applies to all of them, in DA1 and beyond.
Dartford: If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like West Hill Hospital about 0.6 miles west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. A kitchen near Dartford station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval.
Signs you need kitchen extract cleaning
What’s on the menu matters as much as how much is cooked. Frying, grilling and roasting send far more fat into the canopy than steaming or boiling, so two kitchens with the same hours can need very different intervals.
It’s time to book a visit if you see:
- Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
- A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
- Poor airflow at the canopy
- Stale cooking odours from the system
What staff can safely do
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Multi-site and managed buildings
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix
Kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:
- A grease trap that needs emptying
- A fan motor that has burnt out
- An undersized canopy or fan
Different parts, different methods
Restaurant and pub kitchens
Grills, fryers and woks send a lot of fat into the extract, and measured readings show whether the minimum interval is enough.
Extract fan and discharge
The fan pulls the air through the whole system, and grease that gets past everything else ends up on its blades. We isolate it, open it up and degrease it.
Common questions in DA1
Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?
TR19® itself is not law. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19 is the recognised way to show you’ve dealt with extract grease.
What do you do to protect the area?
We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
How often should a kitchen extract be cleaned?
It depends on how many hours a day the kitchen cooks. Heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day calls for a clean at least every 3 months under BESA guidance, and lighter use less often. Your report gives a recommended next clean date.
Which sectors do you work in?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.
What is TR19?
A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
Why do insurers care about extract cleaning?
Grease-filled ducts can carry fire well beyond the kitchen. Many policies say the extract must be cleaned to TR19, and a claim may be reduced without proof, so keep every certificate.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
