TR19 inspection in Well Head, done properly
A fixed schedule doesn’t always match how a kitchen really cooks. Some kitchens build up grease faster than the minimum intervals assume, and only measurement shows it. Our readings give your risk assessment real numbers to work from. The work covers deposit thickness tests, post-clean checks and wet film thickness tests, and the jobs we see most are an insurer’s request for a TR19 audit and parts of the system left out of past cleans.
In a small place like Well Head, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
A written report with photos follows each visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

When it’s something else
TR19 inspection cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. It doesn’t solve:
- The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean
- Ductwork that was designed or installed badly
- Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Grease, kitchens and Well Head
According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 3 pubs and bars within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Well Head. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Well Head. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Kitchens in Well Head get their food hygiene inspections from Dover council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Goodnestone Park is about 1.6 miles south), access may need planning. Where a hall near St Mary's Church, or anywhere in Well Head, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Part by part
Canopy and plenum
Filters can look fine while the plenum behind them is heavily coated. That’s why we test behind them.
Restaurants, pubs and hotels
Heavy use under BESA guidance, 12 to 16 hours a day, means a clean at least every 3 months, and readings show whether that is enough.
Looking after it afterwards
How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Do not box in or cover duct access panels
- Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
- Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
- Diary the next grease test and clean
After post-clean verification, file the results with the cleaning certificate. Together they show the system was cleaned and checked.
Keep all TR19 records together so you can produce them quickly.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.
What happens on the day
There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Well Head.
- We agree a time when the kitchen is closed or quiet.
- The system is checked from canopy to discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points by WFTT or DTT.
- We photograph the test points and record any sections we cannot reach.
- You get a report with readings, pictures and recommendations.
Getting ready for the visit
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Move anything stored near the system
Getting a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before any work starts.
Related advice
Do you need TR19 inspection in Well Head?
Grease is fuel. Flames from the range can be pulled into the canopy and travel through the ducts to other parts of the building. Measuring it is the first step to keeping it under control.
These are the problems we see most often:
- Missing access panels found on survey
- Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
- Pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean
- An insurer’s request for a TR19 audit
For schools such as Wingham Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
Before booking anyone
- If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
- When the next visit should be, and why
What happens if it’s left?
Surveying first means the clean goes to plan. Access problems are spotted in advance rather than on the night, and the quote reflects the real job. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Well Head
Who is the fire and rescue service for Well Head?
That is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Well Head in the summer holidays?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Around Well Head, the Food Standards Agency lists about 3 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Send us your term dates when you ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and we’ll fit the work in.
What do the grease readings need to be?
Two figures matter: a mean of no more than 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns at any single point, which needs immediate spot cleaning. We show your readings against those figures.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
What happens to the waste?
We take it away at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.
How long does grease testing take?
Typically, the inspection takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. System size and access decide the rest.
How much notice do you need?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.
