Staple questions
Who inspects food businesses in Staple?
The local authority for Staple is Dover council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Can the work in Staple be done at night or at weekends?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The site is handed back ready to open. When you ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, mention when the site is quiet.
What types of premises do you cover?
Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. We fit the work around how the site operates.
What does TR19 inspection cost?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. You get a fixed price before work begins.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Only a few details: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. After that, simply phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.
Will you produce a report for our insurer?
Yes, anywhere in the area we cover. Tell us what your insurer has asked for and we’ll set the report out to match.
Are you accredited?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are fully insured and have been trading since 2009.
At what point does grease need cleaning?
The TR19® Grease figures are a mean of 200 microns or less between cleans, and immediate spot cleaning wherever a reading hits 500 microns. We show your readings against those figures.
About our TR19 inspection in Staple
Many insurers ask for proof that kitchen extract systems are cleaned and inspected to TR19®. Without it, a claim can be refused or reduced. A TR19 audit sets out the system’s condition, with readings and photos, for sites in Staple and the rest of Kent. If you have sites with gaps in their extract records and kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings, we can help.
For a kitchen in or near Staple, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
We’ve been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

For landlords and multi-site operators
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.
Why act early in Staple
A check after cleaning shows whether the work reached every part it should have, while there’s still time to put anything right. In a small place like Staple, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

How we price TR19 inspection
Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The condition we find in the survey
- Where the site is and how we reach it
Every site is different, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
What to send for a quote
To speed up the quote, send us:
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
What TR19 inspection looks like in Staple
The Food Standards Agency lists about 5 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Staple. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Staple is covered by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. It’s Dover council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Staple. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St James or elsewhere in Staple, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Different parts, different methods
Extract fan and discharge
The extract fan and its housing collect grease too. They’re included in the readings and photos.
Canopy and plenum
Filters can look fine while the plenum behind them is heavily coated. So we measure behind the filters, not just in front.
When to call us in Staple
You can’t judge grease thickness by eye. A system can look clean at the filters and be heavily coated further in, which is why readings matter.
What we are most often called out for:
- Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
- Insurers asking for TR19 evidence
- Post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean
- Parts of the system left out of past cleans
Historic houses near Staple, such as Goodnestone Park about 1.9 miles south-west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.
Questions to ask before booking
- How VAT is shown on the quote
- Whether a survey comes first
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- What hours they’ll be on site
When it’s something else
To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:
- Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
- A faulty or failing extract fan
- The responsible person’s own fire risk assessment
If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.
Parts of the system we cover
- Deposit thickness tests
- Access surveys
- Wet film thickness tests
- Insurer audits
- Post-clean checks
- Pre-clean surveys
How it works
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. In a small place like Staple, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.
- First we book a time that won’t disrupt cooking.
- Every part of the system is examined, end to end.
- Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
- Each test point and any access problems are photographed.
- The findings go into a report with readings, photos and a recommended next clean.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
Getting a quote
There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
