Kitchen extract cleaning in CT13: how it works
Cooking sends fat-laden vapour into the canopy with every service. As it cools, it clings to the inside of the ductwork and keeps building. That film is fuel, and cleaning the whole system is how you keep it under control. The work covers vertical risers, discharge points and plenums and filters, and the jobs we see most are poor airflow at the canopy and years of baked-on grease in the ducts.
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system.
- First comes a survey of the whole system, by photos or a visit.
- Grease readings are taken at set points and you get a fixed quote.
- On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
- The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
- Readings and pictures are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

Kitchen extract cleaning across CT13: local notes
From Sandwich, Eastry and Buttsole to its smaller places, CT13 has kitchens of every size. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.
Much of our work across London and the South East happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so sites across CT13 do not have to lose a day. Along the coast in CT13, many hotels, pubs and cafés are at their busiest in the summer, so it pays to book work around the busy season.
Sandwich: School kitchens, at schools like Sandwich Infant School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. A hospital like Ramsgate General Hospital, about 5 miles north-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.
Between visits
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:
- Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
- Wash or exchange the filters often
- Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly
- Don’t let the canopy gutters overflow
You get a photo report after every clean. It shows the system before and after, part by part, alongside a list of what was cleaned, anything out of reach and the recommended next clean date.
Clean the grease filters often, not just on clean day. A filter that is clean and seated properly stops more grease getting into the plenum, which slows build-up further down the system.
Leave it or put it right?
If your kitchen in CT13 is past its cleaning date, it’s worth booking now. The job takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one, and we work evenings, overnight and weekends so you don’t lose a service. Waiting only adds grease and risk.
What your quote should include
- How they set the interval to the next visit
- How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
Honest limits
We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it won’t cover:
- Faulty fire dampers in the duct
- Extraction that can’t cope with the cooking because of its design
- A grease trap that needs emptying
Different parts, different methods
Ductwork and risers
Vertical risers carry the air up through the building, and grease runs down their walls and pools at the base. Access panels along the riser let us clean it in sections.
Extract fan and discharge
The fan pulls the air through the whole system, and grease that gets past everything else ends up on its blades. We isolate it, open it up and degrease it.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that’s where we come in.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
FAQs for CT13
Do you work in CT13?
Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, and that includes CT13.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, and the emergency line covers the rest.
Does the law say I must clean to TR19?
The legal duty sits in the Fire Safety Order 2005 rather than in TR19 itself. In practice, TR19 is how kitchens show they’re managing grease, and many insurers ask for proof of it.
How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost?
Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. For a quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the site type, opening hours and a few pictures.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we will quote them together.
What do you do to protect the area?
We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.
