TR19 inspection in The Valley, done properly
Under TR19® Grease, the mean grease thickness should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans, while a reading of 500 microns or more anywhere calls for immediate spot cleaning. Grease testing shows which side of those lines you are on. Typical jobs include heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts and pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean, on post-clean checks, access surveys and pre-clean surveys.
Work in a small place like The Valley starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.
What affects the quote in The Valley
Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:
- The times the site is available
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
- The size of the system
- How easy every part is to reach
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you are not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form for straight advice and a fixed quote.
Asking for a quote
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and photos, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Grease, kitchens and The Valley
Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers The Valley. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. We cover The Valley, about 42 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included.
Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Lawrence or anywhere around The Valley, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Belmont House and Gardens is about 2.1 miles north-east), access may need planning.
The Valley is about 6 miles south-west of Faversham, in Kent. For TR19 inspection in and around The Valley, it’s easy to get a fixed quote: please phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email. Our area covers London and the South East, The Valley included. The Valley is one of 922 places in Kent we cover for commercial clients. For sites nearby, see our Maidstone page (12 miles or so).

The Valley questions
Which fire authority looks after The Valley?
That’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Do you work in villages like The Valley?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes, always. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need and the fixed quote is built on it.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and you’ll get one fixed quote.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.
Where does the waste go?
We take it away at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.
Are you accredited?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.
Do we have to follow TR19 by law?
No. TR19® is not law; it’s BESA’s specification. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires the responsible person to reduce fire risk, and TR19® is what insurers and fire officers look to.
Between visits
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Clean grease off the canopy between professional cleans
- Keep grease filters clean and fitted properly
- Look out for grease drips round the canopy edge
- Send TR19 audit reports to your insurer on request
You get a report with the grease readings, where they were taken and photos of each point. Keep it with your fire safety and TR19 records.
Close the access gaps found during inspection, so grease is not left building in hidden parts.
The process
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to The Valley and turn up when the site is quiet.
- First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
- We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
- Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
- Grease readings are taken and photos recorded.
- We report back with readings and a fixed quote.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
Getting a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before we start.
Advice
What the work involves, part by part
Vertical risers
Access to risers is often limited. The survey shows exactly what access there is.
Extract fan and discharge
Grease on the fan adds to wear. The inspection shows whether it needs cleaning now.
When something else is needed
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
- A faulty or failing extract fan
- Design faults in the extract system
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly.

- Post-clean checks
- Pre-clean surveys
Why deal with it now?
An EHO visit, an insurance renewal or a fire risk assessment is a bad time to find your extract records are thin. A recent inspection report means you are ready when asked. Our emergency line runs 24/7, but a planned visit to The Valley is calmer for everyone.
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.
