Multi-site and managed buildings
Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in Upper Harbledown and across Kent. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
How we handle TR19 inspection in Upper Harbledown
TR19® Grease says grease should not exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Testing is how you know where your system stands. If you’re dealing with uncertainty over how often to clean and kitchens taken over with no cleaning records, we can help, from wet film thickness tests, insurer audits and access surveys onwards.
For a kitchen in or near Upper Harbledown, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
The report is your system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

Different parts, different methods
Extract fan and discharge
The extract fan and its housing collect grease too. We check and test them as part of the inspection.
Canopy and plenum
The plenum behind the filters can carry a lot of grease. We take readings there and photograph it on every inspection.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.
When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and give you a fixed quote.
How we price TR19 inspection
Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- The times the site is available
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- What state the system is in
No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
Helping us quote
A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- The postcode and the type of business
- A few general shots of the system

Upper Harbledown kitchens: local notes
The Food Standards Agency lists about 3 pubs and bars and about 4 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses as registered food businesses within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Upper Harbledown. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Upper Harbledown is covered by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. In Upper Harbledown, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Canterbury City council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Eastbridge Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr about 2 miles east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. School kitchens, at schools like St Edmund's School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

How the visit works
There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. The middle part takes longest, and that takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. The timing of a visit to Upper Harbledown is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.
- First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
- The layout is traced from the canopy to the discharge.
- We note where access panels are and where more are needed.
- We measure the grease and photograph each point.
- We report back with readings and a fixed quote.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
How to get a quote
To get a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. We usually come back within one working day.

Common questions in Upper Harbledown
Which fire service covers Upper Harbledown?
Fire safety enforcement in Upper Harbledown is handled by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
Can you work in Upper Harbledown outside opening hours?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Upper Harbledown needn’t be disturbed. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
What is post-clean verification?
We visit after a clean, take readings at set points and photograph the system. The report flags anything missed.
How far ahead should we book?
It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
At what point does grease need cleaning?
The TR19® Grease figures are a mean of 200 microns or less between cleans, and immediate spot cleaning wherever a reading hits 500 microns. We show your readings against those figures.
How much time does an inspection need?
An inspection takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site. Sites with several canopies take longer, so phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will plan it.
What happens to the waste?
It leaves the site with us at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.
What do you do to protect the area?
Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
Do you need TR19 inspection in Upper Harbledown?
Records can go missing when a business changes hands or contractors. Without them, nobody knows how much grease is in the system or when it was last cleaned.
Clients usually contact us when they notice something like this:
- Sites with gaps in their extract records
- Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
- Systems that need surveying before cleaning
- Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings
Where a hall near Church of St. Gabriel, or anywhere in Upper Harbledown, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether VAT is included
- Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
- What records you’ll receive afterwards
- If they look at the system before pricing
