Leave it or put it right?

Surveying first means the clean goes to plan. Access problems are spotted in advance rather than on the night, so the clean covers the whole system. Somewhere as small as Woolage Village, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.

TR19 inspection for kitchens and businesses in Woolage Village

A pre-clean survey is the diagnosis, and the clean is the treatment. Readings, photos and notes on access are gathered from end to end, so the clean can be planned properly. Common call-outs are for systems that need surveying before cleaning and kitchens taken over with no cleaning records, on access surveys, post-clean checks and insurer audits.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Woolage Village questions

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Woolage Village?

It’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Woolage Village. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Is Woolage Village within the area you cover?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Woolage Village included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Will you produce a report for our insurer?

Yes. Our TR19 audits cover readings, pictures, access and a recommended cleaning interval. It’s set out for your insurer or broker.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Is a quote from photos possible?

Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.

What is TR19?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

How do you measure grease in a kitchen extract?

WFTT and DTT are the two methods for measuring grease thickness, in microns. We take readings at set points from canopy to fan.

At what point does grease need cleaning?

TR19® Grease says the mean shouldn’t exceed 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere at 500 microns or more needs spot cleaning straight away.

What a clean won’t put right

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Ductwork that was designed or installed badly
  • Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit
  • The responsible person’s own fire risk assessment

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly.

The process

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Woolage Village, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. The visit is arranged for when the kitchen isn’t busy.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
  4. We photograph the test points and record any sections we can’t reach.
  5. We send a report setting out the readings, photos and next steps.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

What affects the quote in Woolage Village

Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • The scale of the work

Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

Asking for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We normally come back within one working day.

Different parts, different methods

Restaurants, pubs and hotels

A kitchen running from breakfast to late service builds grease quickly. Regular testing shows whether the cleaning interval keeps up.

Horizontal duct runs

Sections without access are recorded so panels can be added.

What staff can safely do

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Aftercare tips

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted properly
  • Share inspection reports with your insurer or broker when asked
  • Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test
  • Flag oily drips near the extract

After post-clean verification, file the results with the cleaning certificate. The pair gives a clear record of the clean and the check.

Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It spots changes in how fast grease builds.

Grease, kitchens and Woolage Village

There are about 3 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens in and around Woolage Village, up to about a mile and a half out, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Each kitchen extract among them can be measured for grease to set the right cleaning interval. Woolage Village is covered by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. It’s Dover council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Woolage Village. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

A kitchen near Snowdown station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. Where a hall near Church of St Margaret, or anywhere in Woolage Village, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Woolage Village (Goodnestone Park is about 2.8 miles north-east), fitting access panels needs care.
