How kitchen extract cleaning works in CT14
Few kitchens can stop cooking for a day so the extract can be cleaned. Cleans are booked for evenings, overnight or weekends, or during holidays where a site closes for them. With the equipment off and cool and the area sheeted, we clean and hand the kitchen back ready for the next service. We are often asked to deal with a kitchen taken over without any extract records and grease dripping from the canopy or filters, on extract fans, discharge points and horizontal duct runs.
Every visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, make the system safe, do the work, clear away and leave you the report. On site, the work takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one.
- You send photos or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
- We take grease readings at set points and give you a fixed quote.
- On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
- Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
- Readings are repeated, pictures taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.
What affects the price in CT14

Local landmarks in Deal
Around Deal, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near Betteshanger Park, St Saviour's and Castle Community College, among other places. Other local landmarks include Deal Parochial Church of England Primary School (less than half a mile south-east) and Brickmakers Arms (under half a mile north-east). The closest station to Deal is Deal station, about 0.5 miles north-east of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Kent Museum of the Moving Image (0.6 miles north-east) and Deal Castle (0.5 miles east).
Kitchen extract cleaning around CT14
From Dover, Deal and Walmer to its smaller places, CT14 has kitchens of every size. Each extract is cleaned to the same TR19® standard, canopy to discharge.
From central London kitchens to coastal hotels and country pubs, London and the South East have every kind of site. Wherever the site is in CT14, the work is done to the same TR19® standard. Parts of CT14 are on or near the coast, where salt air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings. We look for corrosion as well as dirt on coastal sites.
Deal: If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Walmer Castle is about 1.2 miles south), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. School kitchens, at schools like Castle Community College for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
For landlords and multi-site operators
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we will send a fixed quote.
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
How we price kitchen extract cleaning
Your quote is based on your site. We consider:
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- How big the system is
- The condition we find in the survey
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before any work starts.
Helping us quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- The postcode and the type of business
- Your last certificate, test record or report
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before we start.
What the work involves, part by part
Grease filters
Baffle filters are cleaned as part of every TR19 clean, and refitted so they sit properly in the housing. We will tell you if any need replacing.
Restaurant and pub kitchens
Busy restaurant and pub kitchens often cook for long hours, frying and grilling, which can put them in BESA’s 3 or 6-monthly bands. Cleans are done after close, overnight or before opening.
Why act early?
After a fire, one of the first questions is often when the extract was last cleaned. Many policies require cleaning to TR19, and an insurer can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. A current certificate is far easier to produce than an explanation.
What your quote should include
- What paperwork you get at the end
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
- Whether the figure could change on the day
- How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
When something else is needed
Kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It doesn’t solve:
- Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
- An undersized canopy or fan
- Damaged duct sections that need replacing
CT14 questions
Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?
Strictly, the legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, not from TR19. TR19 is the industry benchmark for meeting that duty in a kitchen extract, and many insurers ask for proof of it.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes, always. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need and the fixed quote is built on it.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, any time. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line, and we’ll advise on what to do next.
Do you clean the whole extract system or just the canopy?
All of it, from the canopy through to the discharge. Where there are not enough access panels to reach a section, it’s recorded, and we can fit new ones.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and you’ll get one fixed quote.
Can you price the work without visiting?
Yes, where the photos show enough. If not, a site survey comes first, then a fixed quote.
What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?
That comes down mainly to daily cooking hours. Heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day calls for a clean at least every 3 months under BESA guidance, and lighter use less often. We will recommend a date after measuring the grease.
