TR19® kitchen extract cleaning in Guildford
Guildford is a historic Surrey town with a historic High Street, a university, a large hospital and a busy mix of restaurants, pubs and hotels. Each of those kitchens has an extract system that gathers grease and needs regular cleaning. We clean kitchen extract to BESA’s TR19® Grease specification across Guildford and the rest of Surrey.
We survey first, from photos or on site, then give you a fixed quote, usually within one working day. We clean when the kitchen is closed: evenings, overnight or at weekends. You get a TR19® certificate and a photo report with before and after pictures. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. See kitchen extract cleaning for what a full clean covers.
If you have taken over a pub or restaurant and don’t know when the extract was last cleaned, a TR19 inspection is the place to start. Grease readings and photos show the state of the system.
A historic town centre and a university
Guildford’s cobbled High Street and the lanes around it are lined with old buildings, many of them listed, with restaurants, cafés and pubs in converted shops and coaching inns. Kitchens in buildings like these often have extract that winds through roof spaces, old chimneys or rear extensions. Ducts can be long and hard to reach. Where reaching a duct means opening up historic walls or ceilings, the owner may need to check with the council’s conservation team first. We record any section we can’t reach, and can fit access panels in the ductwork where that is possible.
The University of Surrey brings halls, refectories, cafés and the Surrey Research Park, with its offices and labs. University kitchens follow the academic year, so vacations are the natural time to clean them, and research and office buildings often need ventilation, AHU and damper work as well. The Royal Surrey County Hospital, schools and care homes add kitchens that cook every day and need careful planning.
The town centre is busy and parking is tight, so we agree access and loading before the visit. Out of town, pubs and restaurants in villages across Surrey often have older kitchens with extract that hasn’t been cleaned along its full length.
Pubs with a large food trade often cook from lunch until late, seven days a week. That can put them in BESA’s heavy or moderate band, and grease thickness readings show whether the extract needs cleaning more often than the minimum.
Food Standards Agency records list about 161 restaurants, cafés and canteens, 48 takeaways, 49 pubs and bars and 3 hotels and guest houses within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Guildford, plus 37 schools and colleges and 30 hospitals, care and childcare premises. Every one that cooks under a canopy has an extract that needs cleaning. Source: FSA food hygiene rating data, October 2026.

Who inspects Guildford kitchens
Food businesses in the borough are inspected by Guildford Borough Council’s environmental health team, and elsewhere in Surrey by the local borough or district council. Officers look at the cleanliness of premises and equipment, extraction included, and ratings are published on the Food Standards Agency’s food hygiene ratings site.
Fire safety in workplaces is enforced by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Its officers carry out audits and can take enforcement action under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsible person, usually the employer, owner, landlord or managing agent, must assess and reduce fire risk, which in a kitchen means keeping grease in the extract under control. GOV.UK’s guide to workplace fire safety explains more.
TR19® is not law, but it is BESA’s specification and the benchmark fire officers, EHOs and insurers look to. In an old timber-framed or listed building, a clean extract is one of the simplest ways to reduce fire risk.
Many pubs are leased or tenanted, and the lease usually says who arranges extract cleaning. Check yours, and keep the certificates where both landlord and tenant can find them.
Guildford’s kitchens
We clean extract for restaurants and pubs in the town and surrounding villages, and for hotels, where kitchen, laundry and riser ductwork can be cleaned together. University, college and school kitchens are covered on schools and colleges, and hospital and care kitchens on hospitals and care homes. Offices, shops and research buildings need ventilation, AHU and damper work. We also clean grease traps and carry out kitchen deep cleans.
Pub groups and restaurant operators with sites across Guildford and Surrey can put them all on one maintenance contract, with each kitchen cleaned at the interval its cooking hours need and its own certificate and photo report. Hotels, golf clubs and venues in the Surrey countryside are covered too. Our 24/7 emergency line is there if a fan fails or grease starts dripping mid-service.
How it works
- Send details. Tell us about your kitchen or building and send a few photos: canopy, filters, access panels and the last certificate if you have one.
- Get a fixed quote. We survey from your photos or on site and give you a fixed price, usually within one working day.
- We clean. We arrive when you’re closed, protect the kitchen and clean the system back to bare metal wherever it can be reached.
- Certified. You get a TR19® certificate and a photo report, with the readings, anything we couldn’t reach and the next clean date.
Our services in Guildford
- Kitchen extract cleaning: Full TR19® Grease cleaning of your kitchen extract, from the canopy and filters through the ductwork to the fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report.

- Ductwork cleaning: Kitchen extract ductwork cleaned along its full length, horizontal runs and vertical risers, through access panels, with grease readings before and after.

- Ventilation duct cleaning: General supply and extract ductwork inspected and cleaned to BESA’s TR19® Air, the hygiene specification for ventilation beyond the kitchen.
- TR19 inspections and grease testing: Grease thickness testing, surveys and TR19® audits that show how much grease is in your kitchen extract and when it needs cleaning.
- Extract fan repair and replacement: Kitchen extract fans diagnosed, repaired or replaced, so smoke, heat and grease are pulled out of the kitchen and the extract system works as it should.
- Grease filter exchange: Dirty canopy grease filters swapped for clean ones on a regular schedule, so the first line of defence in your extract keeps working.
- Commercial kitchen deep cleaning: Commercial kitchens deep cleaned from ceiling to floor, including the places daily cleaning can’t reach: behind, under and inside the cooking equipment.
- Grease trap cleaning: Under-sink and inline grease traps emptied and cleaned on a schedule, so fats, oils and grease stay out of your drains and the sewer.
We also offer smoke damper testing, access panel installation, laundry extract cleaning, LEV testing, odour control maintenance and maintenance contracts.
