New Barn TR19 inspection
TR19 inspection for New Barn, from a team that has been trading since 2009. Out-of-hours visits and 24/7 emergency callout.
- Checking the result of a recent clean
- Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean
- Surveys needed before quoting a full clean
What affects the cost of TR19 inspection
Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:
- How many systems or sites are involved
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Any permits to work or inductions
No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.
What we need to know
Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before any work starts.
About our TR19 inspection in New Barn
Under TR19® Grease, the mean grease thickness should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Grease testing shows which side of those lines you’re on. If you’re dealing with missing TR19 certificates or history and missing access panels found on survey, we can put it right.
Kitchens around a place like New Barn are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.
We’ve been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.
New Barn: your questions answered
Can you work in New Barn outside opening hours?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. It means the site in New Barn keeps running as normal. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.
Will you come out to New Barn?
Yes, New Barn is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
What is a WFTT or DTT grease test?
Grease thickness testing measures the layer of grease on the duct surfaces, by WFTT or DTT. Each reading is recorded in microns.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Every site has its own report.
How much does TR19 inspection cost?
Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. For a quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us about the site and its opening hours.
What’s TR19?
A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
What do the grease readings need to be?
Under TR19® Grease, the mean thickness should not exceed 200 microns between cleans. Any reading of 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning.
Which accreditations do you hold?
We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
How the visit works
When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the photos you sent. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. From there, it takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site. Your opening hours decide when we come to New Barn, not ours.
- After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
- We open the access points used on the clean.
- We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
- Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
- The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.
How to prepare
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Common problems we fix in New Barn
Grease builds up as cooking vapour cools inside the extract. The thickest layers can sit out of sight in the plenum, at bends and along flat runs.
Common reasons sites call us are:
- Post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean
- Heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts
- Missing access panels found on survey
- Kitchens taken over with no cleaning records
A hospital like Gravesham Community Hospital, about 3.6 miles north-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.
Questions to ask before you book

Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:
- Report grease dripping from the canopy
- Tell us if menus or opening hours change
- Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
- Keep access panels clear and unpainted
The report recommends when the system should next be cleaned and tested, from the measured grease and the kitchen’s hours.
Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It shows if build-up is speeding up.
