TR19 inspection across Sundridge

Grease, kitchens and Sundridge

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 4 pubs, bars and clubs across Sundridge and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. The fire and rescue service for Sundridge is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Environmental health officers from Sevenoaks council inspect food businesses in Sundridge. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Combe Bank School or anywhere near Sundridge, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Mary or anywhere around Sundridge, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Sevenoaks Hospital is the nearest hospital to Sundridge, about 3 miles east.

About our TR19 inspection in Sundridge

If you’ve taken over a kitchen in Sundridge and don’t know when the extract was last cleaned, an inspection is the place to start. You get readings, photos and a clear view of what’s needed, before any cleaning is booked. The work covers access surveys, wet film thickness tests and pre-clean surveys, and common reasons people get in touch are parts of the system left out of past cleans and insurers asking for TR19 evidence.

In a village or hamlet like Sundridge, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.

A written report with pictures follows each visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What the work involves, part by part

Canopy and plenum

The plenum behind the filters can carry a lot of grease. We take readings there and photograph it on every inspection.

Schools, hospitals and care homes

Hospital and care home kitchens can cook all day, every day. Readings show if cleaning is frequent enough.

What staff can safely do

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.

How we price TR19 inspection

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:

  • What state the system is in
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • The size of the system
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule

What you pay depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

What to send for a quote

A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

Need a price for TR19 inspection? Please phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with a few details about the site. We’ll explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Common questions in Sundridge

Can you work in Sundridge outside opening hours?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Sundridge does not have to lose a day’s trading. When you call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, mention when the site is quiet.

Do you cover smaller places like Sundridge?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Sundridge is covered. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

What happens on a pre-clean survey?

We check the layout, the grease levels and the access, so the clean goes to plan. Missing access panels are noted so they can be sorted first.

Is a quote from pictures possible?

Yes, where the photos show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for anything that cannot wait until a planned visit. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

Do you carry out TR19 audits for insurers?

Yes. Many insurers ask for proof of TR19 cleaning and inspection, and an audit report gives you that, along with any actions needed.

Can you verify a clean after it’s been done?

Post-clean verification is a check after a clean, with fresh grease readings and pictures. It works whoever carried out the clean.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.

Honest limits

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Hidden runs that need access panels first
  • Fire safety duties beyond the extract system
  • Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Post-clean checks
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Access surveys
  • Insurer audits
  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Wet film thickness tests

What we do, step by step

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system, and we clear up before we go. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Sundridge before we set off.

  1. Post-clean verification is booked once the clean is done.
  2. We open the access points used on the clean.
  3. We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
  4. Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
  5. We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.

How to prepare

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Let us know about parking and loading

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
  • Flag changes in how much frying the kitchen does
  • Clean grease off the canopy between professional cleans
  • Share inspection reports with your insurer or broker when asked

For an insurer audit, send them the report as it is, including readings, photos and any inaccessible sections.

Clean, correctly fitted filters stop more grease reaching the duct. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.

Why it’s worth doing now in Sundridge

Skipping grease testing leaves the cleaning interval to guesswork. Any reading of 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning under TR19® Grease, and you can only act on that if you’ve measured it. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Sundridge rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.
