TR19 inspection in St Lawrence, done properly

A pre-clean survey is the diagnosis, and the clean is the treatment. We look at the system, take grease readings and photograph what we find, so the clean can be planned properly. Typical jobs include heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts and insurers asking for TR19 evidence, across post-clean checks, pre-clean surveys and wet film thickness tests.

For a smaller kitchen near St Lawrence, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

What TR19 inspection can’t fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
  • Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet
  • Fire safety duties beyond the extract system

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Where we work

  • Post-clean checks
  • Access surveys
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Insurer audits
  • Pre-clean surveys

The process

The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Getting to the system matters more than parking in a place like St Lawrence, so let us know how to reach it.

  1. The visit is arranged for when the kitchen isn’t busy.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. We take WFTT or DTT readings at set points along the system.
  4. Each test point and any access problems are photographed.
  5. We send a report setting out the readings, photos and next steps.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Move anything stored near the system

How to get a quote

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, a few pictures and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Then give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

FAQs for St Lawrence

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for St Lawrence?

That is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Can school kitchens in St Lawrence be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. With about 27 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of St Lawrence, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

What happens to the waste?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on rather than letting it spread.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

What does TR19 inspection cost?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote and we will usually reply within one working day.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, 24/7. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.

What information do you need?

Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few photos and any previous report.

How far ahead should we book?

For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

How the job changes from site to site

Vertical risers

In buildings with several floors, the riser may pass through other tenants’ space, so access is planned in advance.

Horizontal duct runs

Flat duct runs collect grease along their base. We test at points along the run through access panels.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in St Lawrence and across Kent. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The scale of the work
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • The times the site is available

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before any work starts.

Kitchen extracts in St Lawrence

St Lawrence lies within about 1 mile of the sea. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. Food Standards Agency records include about 50 pubs and bars and about 8 hotels and B&Bs in and around St Lawrence, up to about a mile and a half out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Food hygiene inspections in St Lawrence are the job of Thanet council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

If you run a café or takeaway near Ramsgate station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Laurence, or anywhere in St Lawrence, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Ellington Infant School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.
