Need canopy cleaning in Essex?

Our canopy cleaning service in Essex

We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re often asked to deal with drips from the canopy onto the range and an EHO comment about the canopy, on wall canopies, grease gutters and baffle filters.

Our technicians bring everything the work needs, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes a few hours for most canopies.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
  2. Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and photos are taken.

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Call or email with a few details and you’ll usually have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

What’s near Colchester

We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Church of St Peter, Bull Meadow and The Bay And Say Public House, among other places. You’ll also find Colchester Sixth Form College (less than half a mile north-west) and St John's Green Primary School (under half a mile south). There’s a railway station in Colchester itself: Colchester Town station. A little further out are Lion Walk (under half a mile south-east) and Essex County Hospital (within half a mile south-west). Not far away are Westhouse Wood.

Where we work in Essex

From Colchester, Chelmsford and Basildon to its smaller places, Essex has kitchens of every size. Each extract is cleaned to the same TR19® standard, canopy to discharge.

Essex is within the area we cover, which takes in London and the South East. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed quote. Near the coast in Essex, salt and damp speed up corrosion in fans, ducts and dampers, and corrosion is one of the things that can stop a fire damper closing.

Colchester: For schools such as Colchester Sixth Form College, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Essex County Hospital (about under half a mile south-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Check filters are not leaving gaps
  • Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
  • Report new drips or smells from the canopy
  • Wipe the canopy down at close every day

The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Every filter is refitted and checked ready for the next service.

Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Air that keeps moving carries less grease onto the canopy.

When it’s something else

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • A canopy undersized for the equipment
  • A fan that can’t pull enough air because it’s worn out
  • A light fitting that doesn’t work

What happens if it’s left?

Grease dripping from the hood can fall onto food, pans and worktops. That is a hygiene problem as well as a fire one, and EHOs look at the cleanliness of the premises and equipment.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether VAT is included
  • Whether a survey comes first
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours

Multi-site and managed buildings

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Essex. Work can be phased by floor, building or site around the people who use them.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Common questions in Essex

How long does canopy cleaning take?

Allow a few hours for most canopies. Your quote will give a time.

How much notice do you need?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

What happens to the filters during the clean?

We remove the filters to reach the plenum, and they’re cleaned before going back in. Any that are damaged are noted on the report.

How do you protect the area?

Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

What should I send you?

Some pictures and a quick description of the system plus the address and your hours. If we need more, we will ask.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.
