About our canopy cleaning in North End
Dripping edges and a sticky hood are the first things a visitor notices. What is not seen, behind the filters, tends to be worse. We clean both, so the canopy is clean where it shows and where it doesn’t. We are often asked to deal with a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away and filters that clog soon after cleaning, across island canopies, canopy light fittings and baffle filters.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

How it works
Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. On site, the work takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to North End and turn up when the site is quiet.
- We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.
Getting ready for the visit
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
Advice
Questions from North End
Can the work in North End be done at night or at weekends?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in North End keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Will you come out to North End?
Yes, North End is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.
Where does the waste go?
Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
What happens to the filters during the clean?
The filters come out so the plenum behind them can be cleaned, and they’re cleaned before going back in. Any that are damaged are noted on the report.
How long does canopy cleaning take?
Allow a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Your quote will give a time.
Does the law say we must follow TR19?
No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.
Do you need canopy cleaning in North End?
Because the plenum sits behind the filters, it’s easy to forget. Kitchen staff clean what they can see, so the plenum often carries months of grease.
It’s time to book a visit if you see:
- Poor capture at the hood
- Filters that clog soon after cleaning
- A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
A hospital like Broomfield Hospital, about 5.2 miles south-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Grease, kitchens and North End
It’s Chelmsford council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in North End. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. North End, about 32 miles from central London, is within our usual area. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site.
For schools such as The Flitch Green Academy, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Andrew or elsewhere in North End, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
North End is about 7 miles south-west of Braintree, in Essex. North End gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. Across Essex, we cover 644 places, and North End is one of them. There’s also a page for Chelmsford, about 8 miles away.
Postcode districts we cover here for canopy cleaning: CM6. Local streets include Bennett's Lane, Mill Road and Black Chapel Lane, all of which we cover for canopy cleaning. Close by, we work in Causeway End (1 mile north-east), Little Dunmow (1 mile north), Ford End (1 mile south-east), Felsted (1 mile north-east) and Brookstreet (1 mile north). Landmarks near North End
Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to The Butchers Arms Public House and the streets around them. Other landmarks nearby include Little Easton Moat (4.7 miles north-west) and Broomfield Hospital (5.2 miles south-east). For a walk, there’s Phyllis Currie Nature Reserve.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.
Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Essex. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.
How the job changes from site to site
Pub and hotel kitchens
A hotel or pub kitchen can rarely close for long. We clean the canopy overnight or between services so the kitchen keeps trading.
Island canopies
Island canopies hang over cooking in the middle of the kitchen, which means grease settles on all four sides. We clean all of them, inside and out.

Honest limits
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
