Canopy cleaning near Dengie

Different parts, different methods

Wall canopies

A long wall canopy may hold several sections of filters. Each section’s plenum and housing is cleaned in turn, with pictures for each.

Plenums and filter housings

The plenum is the space behind the filters where air gathers before entering the duct. It catches whatever gets past the filters, and it’s cleaned every time we clean the canopy.

Canopy cleaning in Dengie

We clean canopies in Dengie when the kitchen is not cooking: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Cooking equipment is turned off and cooled, then covered so the kitchen is ready when we go. If you are dealing with a hood coated in old grease and a greasy hood noticed by an inspector, we can put it right, from plenum chambers, island canopies and canopy light fittings onwards.

Work in a small place like Dengie starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Honest limits

We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Bent or broken filters
  • A canopy undersized for the equipment
  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What the work covers

  • Plenum chambers
  • Baffle filters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Grease gutters
  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies

What we do, step by step

We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. In a small place like Dengie, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

Dengie questions

Can the work in Dengie be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. Your customers, staff or residents in Dengie needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we will book within them.

Does being near the coast affect canopy cleaning in Dengie?

It can. Dengie is within about 3 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.

Where does the waste go?

We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on rather than letting it spread.

What is TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

What types of premises do you cover?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.

Can I just have the canopy cleaned instead of the whole system?

On its own, a canopy clean is a useful extra rather than a full TR19 clean. We will make clear on the report which parts were cleaned so nobody mistakes it for a full system clean.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line, for problems that cannot wait. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.

How long does canopy cleaning take?

One lightly soiled hood doesn’t take long, while long canopies, several hoods or heavy deposits take more time. We’ll tell you what to expect.

Signs you need canopy cleaning in Dengie

Steam and condensation make canopy grease harder to deal with. As the canopy cools, condensation forms and runs with the grease. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.

Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Poor capture at the hood
  • A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
  • Greasy streaks across the canopy
  • Wet, greasy drips from the hood

Around Dengie, as anywhere, we clean the parts you cannot see as well as the canopy you can.

What affects the quote in Dengie

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We take into account:

  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • What state the system is in
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Any permits to work or inductions

Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you’ll get one fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • A few general shots of the system

If you need canopy cleaning in Dengie, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos. Let us know the site type and the opening hours, plus photos or the previous report if they’re to hand. A fixed quote normally follows within one working day.

Aftercare tips

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
  • Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
  • Tell us when the canopy starts to drip

We point out anything we noticed while the canopy was apart: bent or poorly fitting filters, a light cover that is cracked, or troughs that fill too quickly. We keep it to what matters.

Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Air that keeps moving carries less grease onto the canopy.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Dengie

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

Canopy cleaning around Dengie

The coast is only about 3 miles from Dengie. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. It’s Maldon council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Dengie. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check.
