Our kitchen extract cleaning service in IG5

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract systems since 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Typical jobs include stale cooking odours from the system and heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs, across canopies and hoods, extract fans and discharge points.

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows.

  1. We start with a survey, so we know every part of the system before we quote.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before we start.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Finally the system is re-tested and photographed, and the certificate and report follow.

What you will pay

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.

What you get with us

  • Survey first, then a fixed quote
  • Accredited under CHAS and SafeContractor, with ISO 9001
  • A written report with photos after every visit

Getting a quote

To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We typically come back within one working day.

Landmarks near Fairlop

Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to St Francis of Assisi, Kantor King Solomon High School and Fairlop Primary School. Nearby too are The New Fairlop Oak pub (under half a mile south) and Fairlop Waters (0.8 miles east). The closest station to Fairlop is Seven Kings station, about 2.5 miles south. Well-known places in the area include Claybury Hospital (0.7 miles west) and Redbridge Museum (2.9 miles south). Green spaces nearby include Pole Hill and Hainault Lodge.

Kitchen extract cleaning across IG5: local notes

In IG5, a busy kitchen in a place such as Fairlop, Fullwell Cross and Barkingside and a quiet village kitchen need very different cleaning intervals. Grease readings and BESA’s minimum intervals set the schedule for each.

In England, the Fire Safety Order puts the duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and each certificate and photo report is a record you can keep in your log book.

Fairlop: Valentines Mansion, about 2.1 miles south, is one of the historic houses near Fairlop; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Claybury Hospital (about 0.7 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

Part by part

Extract fan and discharge

At the end of the system is the discharge, which can collect grease and stain the surface around it. It’s cleaned as far as safe access allows, and any limits are recorded.

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Losing a service isn’t an option for most restaurants and pubs. We work overnight and at weekends where that suits, and hand back a clean kitchen ready to cook.

What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix

In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • Fire dampers that will not close (that needs damper testing and remedials)
  • Extraction that cannot cope with the cooking because of its design
  • Ductwork that is corroded, split or leaking (that’s for a ductwork contractor)

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Common problems we fix in IG5

Hours of cooking are the biggest factor. BESA guidance sets minimum cleaning intervals of every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours a day, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours, and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. They are minimums: measured grease levels set the real interval.

Most sites get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey
  • Grease drips onto cooking equipment
  • Poor airflow at the canopy
  • A kitchen taken over without any extract records

Managing agents and facilities teams in IG5

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

Questions from IG5

What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?

Under BESA guidance, the minimum depends on how long you cook each day: 3-monthly for heavy use, 6-monthly for moderate use and 12-monthly for light use. Grease readings can show a shorter interval is needed.

How much notice do you need?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Every job is surveyed first, either from photos and details you send or on a site visit. Then you get a fixed quote.

Is a quote from photos possible?

Yes, if we can see what we need. If not, a site survey comes first, then a fixed quote.

What is TR19?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Will the clean disrupt our service?

Out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. We need the equipment cool, and we leave the kitchen ready to cook.
