Canopy Cleaning in Little Oakley
Canopy cleaning for Little Oakley, with a survey first and a report with photos at the end. Call for a fixed quote.
- Greasy streaks across the canopy
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
- A filter housing caked in grease
Between visits
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Leave the extract running until cooking stops
- Give the canopy a wipe after service
- Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
- Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
A before and after photo report follows the clean. It notes what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, so the record is honest and complete.
Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.
Canopy cleaning in Little Oakley, done properly
The canopy is where the extract system breathes in. A dirty canopy passes more grease further into the system. Our diagnosis starts there, and the treatment is a thorough degrease of the hood, plenum and housing. Common call-outs are for a hood coated in old grease and fat running down the front of the hood, across wall canopies, island canopies and canopy light fittings.
In a small place like Little Oakley, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Island canopies
The underside of an island canopy is in full view, so the finish matters. We degrease it thoroughly and photograph the result.
Wall canopies
At the back of the canopy, behind the filters, grease builds up unseen. We remove the filters to reach it and degrease it properly.
What happens if it’s left?
Drips from a dirty canopy land on the cooking line. It’s a food hygiene concern as much as a fire concern, and EHOs look at the cleanliness of the premises and equipment. Planning a trip to Little Oakley ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.
We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we will explain what it covers.

For landlords and multi-site operators
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in Little Oakley and across Essex. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.
Little Oakley: your questions answered
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Little Oakley?
Little Oakley is in the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Can sea air affect canopy cleaning in Little Oakley?
Yes, to a degree: at about 2 miles from the coast, Little Oakley gets salt-laden air that corrodes metal faster. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
We record them on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.
What kinds of canopies do you clean?
Most commercial kitchen canopies, from one small hood to a long run of canopies. The survey tells us how best to clean yours, from photos or a visit.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.
What types of premises do you cover?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.
Do you provide pictures of the cleaned canopy?
A photo report, with before and after pictures of the canopy and plenum. It also gives a recommended date for the next clean.
How long is a canopy clean?
Size and build-up decide it. As a guide, it takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits.
Little Oakley kitchens: local notes
The coast is only about 2 miles from Little Oakley. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. Little Oakley sits within the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. In Little Oakley, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Tendring council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
Bursars and site managers at schools such as The Harwich School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. Church and community hall kitchens, near St Mary's House or anywhere around Little Oakley, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.
Little Oakley is about 2 miles south-west of Harwich, in Essex. From the centre of Little Oakley to the outskirts, canopy cleaning is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from small sites to large estates. Across Essex, we cover 644 places, and Little Oakley is one of them. We also work in Chelmsford, around 34 miles away.
Work in CO12 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Streets in the area include The Hornbeams, Oak Ridge and Rectory Road, all of which we cover for canopy cleaning. When it’s something else
We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it won’t cover:
- Bent or broken filters
- Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
- Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think before you book.
Parts of the system we cover

What staff can safely do
Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
The process
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the job takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Little Oakley.
- We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
- Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after photos go into your report.
Preparing for the visit
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Tell us where we can park and unload
