TR19 cleaning across IG8

Kitchen extract cleaning across IG8: what to expect

We have been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re often asked to deal with grease dripping from the canopy or filters and years of baked-on grease in the ducts, on extract fans, canopies and hoods and vertical risers.

We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we’re in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system.

  1. We start with a survey, so we know every part of the system before we quote.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before we start.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed and the equipment has cooled, we sheet and protect the area.
  4. Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

What you’ll pay

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

You will also find The Highams Park (1.1 miles north-west), Churchfields Junior School (0.5 miles south-west) and Woodford Green Preparatory School (within half a mile north-west). The nearest railway station is Highams Park station, about 1.3 miles west. Nearby you will also find 17 & Central (2.7 miles south-west) and Wanstead Hospital (1.4 miles south). For a walk, there’s Ainslie Wood and Pole Hill.

Kitchen extract cleaning around IG8

In IG8, a busy kitchen in a place such as Walthamstow, Woodford and South Woodford and a quiet village kitchen need very different cleaning intervals. The right interval comes from hours of use and grease readings.

IG8 is within the area we cover, which takes in London and the South East. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed quote, wherever it is in IG8.

Woodford: Term dates shape school work: for a school like Woodbridge High School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Historic houses near Woodford, such as Valentines Mansion about 2.7 miles south-east, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.

Fixed quotes for kitchen extract cleaning in IG8

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The condition of the system
  • Parking and loading at the site

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before we start.

What we need to know

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit ends with a dated report and photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Faulty fire dampers in the duct
  • A duct that’s holed or coming apart
  • A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed

Leave it or put it right?

Environmental health officers inspect food businesses, in IG8 as everywhere else, and a greasy canopy or dripping filters will not go unnoticed. A clean extract is one less thing to worry about on the day.

Questions to ask before booking

  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • Whether VAT is included
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded

IG8: your questions answered

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

What about areas you can’t get to?

They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.

Does the law say I must clean to TR19?

TR19® itself is not law. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19 is the recognised way to show you’ve dealt with extract grease.

Why do insurers care about extract cleaning?

Grease-filled ducts can carry fire well beyond the kitchen. Many policies say the extract must be cleaned to TR19, and a claim may be reduced without proof, so keep every certificate.

What happens to the waste?

It leaves the site with us at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

Do you cover IG8?

Yes. Our technicians work in IG8, within the South East and London area we cover.
