Canopy cleaning in Little Common

We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are often asked to deal with condensation running down the canopy and grease dripping from the canopy edge, on wall canopies, canopy light fittings and baffle filters.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

The report is your system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

How the job changes from site to site

Plenums and filter housings

The plenum is the space behind the filters where air gathers before entering the duct. It catches whatever gets past the filters, and it’s cleaned every time we clean the canopy.

Wall canopies

A long wall canopy may hold several sections of filters. Each section’s plenum and housing is cleaned in turn, with photos for each.

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.

Common questions in Little Common

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Little Common?

That is Braintree council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Little Common. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Do you work overnight in Little Common?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. Your customers, staff or residents in Little Common needn’t be disturbed. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

How much does canopy cleaning cost in Little Common?

It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. To get one, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.

Do we lose a day’s trading?

Not typically. We need the work area to ourselves while we are on site, so the visit goes in a quiet slot.

What do you need from me for a quote?

The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, along with a few pictures and any previous report.

Is TR19 cleaning required by law?

No. The law sets the duty; TR19® is the benchmark used to show it’s met. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must reduce fire risk, and many insurers can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of cleaning.

What about areas you cannot get to?

We record them on the report, with pictures where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

How much notice should we give?

The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes usually come back within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Little Common

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • The condition of the system
  • The size of the system
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The number of sites or systems

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

Helping us quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

The process

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Visits to a village like Little Common are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions

Advice

What canopy cleaning cannot fix

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
  • A canopy undersized for the equipment

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Signs you need canopy cleaning in Little Common

A canopy with gaps around its filters lets grease straight through. More grease reaches the plenum and housing than they’re designed to take, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
  • Fat running down the front of the hood
  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
  • Grease filters blocking between washes

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Rayne Primary and Nursery School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

What your quote should include

  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • What paperwork you get at the end

Why act early in Little Common

Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. Our emergency line runs 24/7, but a planned visit to Little Common is calmer for everyone.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.
