Braiswick canopy cleaning
Canopy cleaning for Braiswick, from a team that has been trading since 2009. Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus a 24/7 emergency line.
- Wet, greasy drips from the hood
- A filter housing caked in grease
- Filters that never seem to stay clean
Between visits
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
- Never run the range with a filter out
- Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
Anything worth knowing goes into the report: damaged filters, gaps around the housing or troughs that need emptying more often. It’s a short list of what to watch, not a sales pitch.
Don’t let canopy gutters fill to the brim. Overflowing troughs are the usual cause of drips onto the range, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.
Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Braiswick
Canopy cleaning is part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but some sites need the canopy done between full cleans. In that case, the report makes clear what was and wasn’t cleaned, so your records stay accurate. We are often asked to deal with drips from the canopy onto the range and overflowing grease troughs and gutters, on canopy light fittings, island canopies and wall canopies.
Somewhere as small as Braiswick, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

When it’s something else
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what canopy cleaning will not do:
- A fan that cannot pull enough air because it’s worn out
- A dirty extract fan further along the system
- A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

How the visit works
Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Braiswick and turn up when the site is quiet.
- First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
- Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
- We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
Get a fixed quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Advice
Multi-site and managed buildings
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
FAQs for Braiswick
Who is the fire and rescue service for Braiswick?
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Braiswick. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
Is Braiswick within the area you cover?
Yes, Braiswick is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
How much does canopy cleaning cost?
It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. To get one, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the site type, opening hours and a few pictures.
What accreditations do you have?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.
Who is the responsible person?
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it’s the responsible person: normally the employer or whoever controls the premises. In shared or managed buildings, a landlord, facilities manager or managing agent can share the duty.
Is the inside of the hood cleaned?
We clean the canopy inside and out, along with its seams and grease channels. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned as well.
How the job changes from site to site
School and staff canteen kitchens
School and canteen kitchens often cook to set hours, so the canopy can be cleaned when the kitchen is closed. Holidays and weekends work well.
Plenums and filter housings
Filter housings hold the filters in place, and their channels fill with grease. We clean them so the filters sit tight and leave no gaps.
Grease, kitchens and Braiswick
Look up Braiswick on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 194 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 43 takeaways and sandwich shops in and around Braiswick, up to about a mile and a half out. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. Food hygiene inspections in Braiswick are the job of Colchester council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Braiswick sits within the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
Where a hall near Church of St Leonard, or anywhere in Braiswick, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Essex County Hospital is the nearest hospital to Braiswick, about 0.8 miles east.
Braiswick is about 1 mile north of Camulodunum, in Essex. Braiswick gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with pictures. Braiswick is one of 644 places in Essex we cover for commercial clients. There’s also a page for Chelmsford, about 20 miles away.
Work in CO3 follows the same survey, fixed quote and written report as everywhere else we cover. If you need canopy cleaning at premises on Park Road, Church Lane and Lexden Road or anywhere close by, we can help. Braiswick is on the A1124, so it’s easy for us to get to for canopy cleaning. What we are called out for in Braiswick
Most canopies have troughs or channels that catch running grease. Left to fill up, they spill over, so fat ends up running down the front of the hood.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
- Fat running down the front of the hood
- Condensation and grease dripping together
- A filter housing caked in grease
For schools such as Colchester County High School for Girls, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
