Your questions about canopy cleaning in Monk Street

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Monk Street?

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Monk Street. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Who inspects food businesses in Monk Street?

The local authority for Monk Street is Uttlesford council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

What does canopy cleaning cost?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. We fix the price before work begins.

Do you provide photos of the cleaned canopy?

A photo report, with before and after pictures of the canopy and plenum. The report includes a recommended next clean date.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.

How much notice should we give?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. We always survey first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where needed. Then you get a fixed quote.

Canopy cleaning in Monk Street

Dripping edges and a sticky hood are the first things a visitor notices. What isn’t seen, behind the filters, tends to be worse. We clean both, so the canopy is clean where it shows and where it doesn’t. Typical jobs include condensation running down the canopy and grease dripping from the canopy edge, on island canopies, canopy light fittings and grease gutters.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

The report is your system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

For landlords and multi-site operators

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • The size of the system
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • The condition of the system

You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and we will talk you through it.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

For canopy cleaning in Monk Street, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email. Let us know the site type and the opening hours, plus pictures or the previous report if they’re to hand. A fixed quote usually follows within one working day.

Do you need canopy cleaning in Monk Street?

The canopy takes the hottest, wettest air in the kitchen. Grease from the vapour lands on the canopy’s inner surfaces, its joints and its filters, and the plenum behind them collects the rest.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Greasy streaks across the canopy
  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
  • Filters that never seem to stay clean
  • Grease dripping from the canopy edge

Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Horham Hall is about 1.5 miles west), access may need planning.

What to look for in a quote

  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether a survey comes first

What staff can safely do

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Grease, kitchens and Monk Street

Food Standards Agency records list about 3 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Monk Street. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Food hygiene inspections in Monk Street are the job of Uttlesford council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. The fire and rescue service for Monk Street is Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

What a clean won’t put right

Canopy cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • Bent or broken filters
  • A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
  • Electrical faults in the canopy

If you are not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Where we work

  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Plenum chambers
  • Island canopies

Why deal with it now?

If the canopy waits for the next full clean, grease keeps adding up. Some kitchens need the canopy cleaning more often than the whole system, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

How it works

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the pictures you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, it takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. In a small place like Monk Street, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
