Canopy cleaning in Heckfordbridge

Canopy cleaning in Heckfordbridge

A greasy canopy tells an inspector a lot before they’ve opened anything. Under the surface, the plenum behind the filters is normally in a worse state. We clean both, so the canopy is clean where it shows and where it doesn’t. We are often asked to deal with canopy gutters full of old fat and grease filters blocking between washes, on island canopies, baffle filters and wall canopies.

For a kitchen in or near Heckfordbridge, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Multi-site and managed buildings

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

Why deal with it now?

Grease dripping from the hood can fall onto food, pans and worktops. It’s a food hygiene concern as much as a fire concern, and EHOs look at the cleanliness of the premises and equipment. If the system at a site near Heckfordbridge fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Keeping the system healthy

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
  • Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
  • Keep the fan on through service
  • Don’t scrape the canopy with metal tools

After the clean you get a photo report showing the canopy, plenum and housing before and after. It notes what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, so the record is honest and complete.

Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It won’t replace a professional clean, but it slows the build-up you can see.

Different parts, different methods

Island canopies

With filters on more than one side, an island canopy has more plenum to clean. Both sides are taken apart and cleaned.

School and staff canteen kitchens

Canteen staff see the canopy, not the duct behind it. We clean it and the plenum behind the filters, so what’s out of sight is dealt with too.

Heckfordbridge: your questions answered

Can school kitchens in Heckfordbridge be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 2 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Heckfordbridge. Send us your term dates when you call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we will fit the work in.

Which fire service covers Heckfordbridge?

That’s Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

How far ahead should we book?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

How do you protect the area?

We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

On its own, a canopy clean is a useful extra rather than a full TR19 clean. Your report lists exactly what was cleaned so nobody mistakes it for a full system clean.

How long is a canopy clean?

Size and build-up decide it. Typically it takes a few hours for most canopies.

What should I send you?

The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, along with a few photos and any previous report.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.

Honest limits

In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What the work covers

  • Canopy light fittings
  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies
  • Grease gutters
  • Baffle filters
  • Plenum chambers

What happens on the day

Protection comes first: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Heckfordbridge, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
  3. Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
  4. Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
  5. You get photos of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.

How to prepare

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

How to get a quote

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Advice

Canopy cleaning in Heckfordbridge: the local picture

Food Standards Agency data counts about 3 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Heckfordbridge.
