For deep cleaning of kitchen canopies, hoods, plenums and grease filters, inside and out in Malting Green, one call is all it takes: survey, fixed quote, work and sign-off. CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, ISO 9001 and fully insured.

- Fat running down the front of the hood
Canopy cleaning in Malting Green, done properly
Think of the canopy as the mouth of the extract. If it’s coated in grease, everything downstream gets more of it. We start the check-up there, and the treatment is a thorough degrease of the hood, plenum and housing. If you have grease channels that no longer drain and a filter housing caked in grease, we can help.
Work in a small place like Malting Green starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That’s why every job is written up in a report with photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

How we price canopy cleaning
The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- The condition we find in the survey
- Travel, parking and unloading
- The size of the system
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.
What to send for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- A few general shots of the system
- The postcode and the type of business
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few pictures and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
What canopy cleaning cannot fix
We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Malting Green kitchens: local notes
Food Standards Agency records list about 5 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 3 takeaways and sandwich shops within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Malting Green. Wherever there’s a canopy over the cooking, its hood and plenum collect grease with every service. It’s Colchester council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Malting Green. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Malting Green is covered by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
For schools such as Alderman Blaxill School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Historic houses near Malting Green, such as Layer Marney Tower about 3.7 miles south-west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Essex County Hospital is the nearest hospital to Malting Green, about 2.9 miles north.
Malting Green is about 3 miles south of Colchester, in Essex. Malting Green gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with pictures. We cover 644 places across Essex, large and small. Our Chelmsford page covers sites nearby (18 miles or so).
All of CO2 is covered for canopy cleaning, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Local streets include Abberton Road, Mill Lane and Bounstead Hill, all of which we cover for canopy cleaning. Nearby, we also carry out canopy cleaning in Layer-de-la-Haye (1 mile west), Abbey Field (2 miles north), Peldon (2 miles south), Birch (2 miles west) and Heckfordbridge (2 miles west). Larger places within reach include Colchester (3 miles north), Braintree (14 miles west), Clacton-on-Sea (12 miles east), Maldon (12 miles south-west), Witham (11 miles west) and Camulodunum (3 miles north).
Around Malting Green

The countryside around Malting Green includes Roman River Valley.
What happens if it’s left?
Getting the canopy cleaned in Malting Green now saves a bigger job later. It takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up, out of hours so service carries on. Left alone, grease keeps moving into the plenum and duct. A planned visit to Malting Green is easier to arrange than an emergency callout.
A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before work begins.

Keeping the system healthy
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
- Keep the fan on through service
- Tell us when the canopy starts to drip
- Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Filters are back in place and seated properly ready for the next service.
Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It does not reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.
How the visit works
Every visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, make the system safe, carry out the canopy cleaning, tidy up and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes a few hours for most canopies. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Malting Green.
- The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
- Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
- Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.
Preparing for the visit
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Find the previous report, if there is one

Advice
For landlords and multi-site operators
Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Essex. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.
For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Your questions about canopy cleaning in Malting Green
Is Malting Green within the area you cover?
Yes. Malting Green is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Which fire authority looks after Malting Green?
That’s Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
Do we lose a day’s trading?
Not normally. Visits are timed for when the area is closed, such as overnight or at a weekend, so you keep your normal hours.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few photos and any previous report.
Can you clean the canopy outside our opening hours?
We clean when the kitchen is closed: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Equipment under the canopy needs to be off and cool.
How much notice do you need?
The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. We usually quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.
How long does canopy cleaning take?
Allow a few hours for most canopies. We will confirm how long when we quote.
