Canopy cleaning for sites in Brick End

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Brick End

Every TR19® Grease clean includes the canopy, but a canopy can also need cleaning on its own, between full system cleans. In that case, the report makes clear what was and wasn’t cleaned, so your records stay accurate. If you have condensation and grease dripping together and fat running down the front of the hood, we can put it right.

Somewhere as small as Brick End, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with pictures of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Leave it or put it right?

A blocked plenum and clogged filters cut the airflow at the canopy. Smoke and heat hang around the cooking line, and the fan works harder for less. A clean canopy and plenum let the extract do its job. Somewhere as small as Brick End, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

What a clean won’t put right

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • A hood that does not cover the cooking line
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • Bent or broken filters

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What the work covers

  • Island canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Grease gutters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Plenum chambers
  • Wall canopies

The process

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes a few hours for most canopies. In a small place like Brick End, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Clear the space around the work

FAQs for Brick End

Which fire service covers Brick End?

It’s Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Brick End. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Which council inspects kitchens in Brick End?

That is Uttlesford council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Brick End. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

What’s TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked and expects a risk-based approach.

How do you protect the area?

We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before we start, and anything we remove is contained. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.

Does a canopy clean meet TR19?

You can have the canopy cleaned on its own, but it will not cover the ductwork or fan. For TR19, the whole system needs cleaning, at intervals set by BESA guidance.

Do you clean the grease filters as part of a canopy clean?

We remove the filters to reach the plenum, then clean and refit them. Any that are damaged are noted on the report.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

When to call us in Brick End

However carefully a kitchen in Brick End is run, the canopy still collects grease. That grease is fuel sitting right above the heat, which is why a flare-up near a dirty canopy is so dangerous.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Canopy gutters full of old fat
  • Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
  • Grease dripping from the canopy edge
  • A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Brick End (Horham Hall is about 2.4 miles north-east), fitting access panels needs care.

How the job changes from site to site

Grease troughs and gutters

Drips from the canopy edge often start in a full gutter. Cleaning it clears the drip.

Plenums and filter housings

The rails and channels that hold the filters collect grease. Clean housings let the filters seat properly and leave no gaps.
