Navestock Side canopy cleaning
Canopy cleaning in Navestock Side from ventilation hygiene specialists trading since 2009. Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus a 24/7 emergency line.
- A hood coated in old grease
- A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
How we handle canopy cleaning in Navestock Side
Canopy cleans are done out of hours: after service, overnight or at the weekend. The equipment underneath is switched off, left to cool and sheeted so the kitchen is ready when we go. We’re often asked to deal with condensation and grease dripping together and grease dripping from the canopy edge, on plenum chambers, canopy light fittings and grease gutters.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

What happens if it’s left?
Grease on the canopy is sitting just above the heat source. Flames from the range can ignite it and be pulled further into the system, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. In a small place like Navestock Side, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before work begins.

- A canopy undersized for the equipment
- Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy

When to call us in Navestock Side
A canopy with gaps around its filters lets grease straight through. The plenum and housing behind them then take far more grease than they should, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- An EHO comment about the canopy
- Condensation running down the canopy
- A filter housing caked in grease
- Drips from the canopy onto the range
Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Paul or anywhere around Navestock Side, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Kitchen extracts in Navestock Side
Food Standards Agency data counts about 7 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Navestock Side. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. It’s Brentwood council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Navestock Side. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Navestock Side sits within the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Hill Hall is about 4.8 miles west), access may need planning. Different parts, different methods
School and staff canteen kitchens
School and canteen kitchens often cook to set hours, which makes a canopy clean easy to schedule. We often clean them in holidays or at weekends.
Island canopies
Everything about an island canopy is on show so a clean, even finish matters. We degrease it thoroughly and photograph the result.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Navestock Side questions
Do you cover smaller places like Navestock Side?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Navestock Side included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you work overnight in Navestock Side?
Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. It means the site in Navestock Side keeps running as normal. When you ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos, mention when the site is quiet.
How long does canopy cleaning take?
A single canopy with a light build-up is fairly quick, while long canopies, several hoods or heavy deposits take more time. We will tell you what to expect.
What do you do to protect the area?
Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Some photos and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. We will ask for anything else we need.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.
What’s TR19?
A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
The process
We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Navestock Side run smoothly.
- We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
- The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
- We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
- Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
- Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Find the previous report, if there is one
Getting a quote
Quotes are quick. Send a few details and photos, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Advice
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.
