Canopy cleaning for sites in Stisted

About our canopy cleaning in Stisted

Of the whole extract system, the canopy is the bit on show. It’s also the first place cooking vapour meets, so grease gathers on its inner skin, seams and gutters. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. The work covers island canopies, plenum chambers and canopy light fittings, and common reasons people get in touch are an EHO comment about the canopy and poor capture at the hood.

Somewhere as small as Stisted, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

Good records are part of the job. Each visit is written up with pictures, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

Stisted: your questions answered

Will you come out to Stisted?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Stisted included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Which fire authority looks after Stisted?

It’s Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Stisted. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

TR19® Grease is about the whole extract, from canopy to discharge. Cleaning the canopy alone leaves the ducts, risers and fan untouched, and the report will say what was covered.

Who is the responsible person?

It depends on the building. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person, which can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, an FM or a managing agent.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes, of course. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

How long does canopy cleaning take?

Allow a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Your quote will give a time.

What happens to the waste?

We take it away when we go. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.

Aftercare tips

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Keep the fan on through service
  • Check all filters are fitted before service
  • Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
  • Tell us when the canopy starts to drip

Where the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If the job covers only the canopy, the paperwork reflects that.

Do not let canopy gutters fill to the brim. Overflowing troughs are the usual cause of drips onto the range, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that’s where we come in.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.

The process

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Stisted.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

How to prepare

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Clear the space around the work

Ask for a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Part by part

Grease troughs and gutters

Grease channels around the canopy collect what runs down the inside. We empty and degrease them, so they can do their job again.

Island canopies

The underside of an island canopy is in full view so a clean, even finish matters. We degrease it thoroughly and photograph the result.

Canopy cleaning around Stisted

About 41 miles out from central London, Stisted is part of the South East area we work across. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included. Food hygiene inspections in Stisted are the job of Braintree council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Stisted Church of England Primary Academy or anywhere near Stisted, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Parish Church of All Saints or elsewhere in Stisted, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Stisted is St Michael's Hospital, about 3.3 miles west.

What a clean won’t put right

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
  • A fan that cannot pull enough air because it’s worn out
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What the work covers

  • Canopy light fittings
  • Grease gutters
  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies
  • Plenum chambers
  • Baffle filters

Managing agents and facilities teams in Stisted

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in Stisted and across Essex. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

Why it’s worth doing now in Stisted

A greasy canopy is fuel directly above the flame. A flare-up can catch it and be drawn into the plenum and duct, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

We do not list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will talk you through it.
