Canopy cleaning near Coalhill

Canopy cleaning in Coalhill, done properly

We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you’re dealing with filters that clog soon after cleaning and heavy deposits behind the grease filters, we can help.

Somewhere as small as Coalhill, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Why deal with it now?

If the canopy waits for the next full clean, grease keeps adding up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

What a clean won’t put right

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • Electrical faults in the canopy
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Island canopies
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Plenum chambers

Part by part

Wall canopies

The back of a wall canopy is hard to reach and easy to miss. We remove the filters to reach it and scrape it clean.

Grease troughs and gutters

Some troughs drain to a cup or drawer, we empty and clean that as well, and we will show staff where it is.

What we do, step by step

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes a few hours for most canopies. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Coalhill and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Clear loose items from the work area

Signs you need canopy cleaning in Coalhill

Moisture in the air mixes with the grease on the canopy. As the canopy cools, condensation forms, carrying grease with it. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Condensation and grease dripping together
  • An EHO comment about the canopy
  • Canopy gutters full of old fat
  • Drips from the canopy onto the range

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Coalhill (Danbury Place is about 4.5 miles north), fitting access panels needs care.

Questions to ask before booking

Multi-site and managed buildings

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.

What affects the quote in Coalhill

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Site rules, permits and inductions

We do not list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.

What to send for a quote

We can often survey from photos. Try to include:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, photos of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Coalhill questions

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Coalhill?

Coalhill is in the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Do you work overnight in Coalhill?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The site is handed back ready to open. When you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, mention when the site is quiet.

Will I get a report after the canopy clean?

Photos of the canopy and plenum before and after. The report includes a recommended next clean date.

How much does canopy cleaning cost?

Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Ask us for a fixed quote, usually ready within one working day.

Where does the waste go?

We contain it and take it with us. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go, so it doesn’t spread.

What happens to the filters during the clean?

The filters are removed, cleaned and put back. Each filter is checked for fit as it goes back, because gaps let grease through.

Does a canopy clean meet TR19?

On its own, a canopy clean is a useful extra rather than a full TR19 clean. We will make clear on the report which parts were cleaned so nobody mistakes it for a full system clean.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
