Essex · Canopy and hood cleaning
Ostend canopy cleaning
Canopy cleaning for commercial sites in Ostend and across Essex. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and fully insured.
- A hood coated in old grease
- Grease filters blocking between washes
- Condensation and grease dripping together
Signs you need canopy cleaning in Ostend
The plenum is hidden behind the filters, so nobody sees it build up. Daily cleaning reaches the canopy face but rarely gets further, leaving the plenum and housing to collect grease between professional cleans.
Clients usually contact us after spotting something like this:
- A sticky, discoloured canopy
- Canopy gutters full of old fat
- An EHO comment about the canopy
- Filters that never seem to stay clean
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of All Saints, or anywhere in Ostend, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
What to look for in a quote

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Ostend
The canopy is where the extract system breathes in. A dirty canopy passes more grease further into the system. We start the check-up there, and the cure is a thorough clean of the hood, the plenum and the filter housing. If you’re dealing with a sticky, discoloured canopy and heavy deposits behind the grease filters, we can put it right.
Work in a small place like Ostend starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
Think of the report as the system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal, ready for your insurer.

Aftercare tips
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Give the canopy a wipe after service
- Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
- Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
- Check all filters are fitted before service
We recommend when the canopy, or the whole system, should next be cleaned. It reflects how long the kitchen cooks and how much grease we removed, in line with BESA guidance.
A change in how the canopy behaves is worth reporting. More drips or quicker clogging often mean the cleaning interval needs looking at, which a grease thickness test can confirm.
How the visit works
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Ostend and turn up when the site is quiet.
- We look at the canopy first, from photos or on a visit.
- The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
- Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
- We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
- Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and photos are taken.
Before we arrive
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
How to get a quote
Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.
Advice
Kitchen extracts in Ostend
There are about 20 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 8 sandwich bars and takeaways in and around Ostend, up to about a mile and a half out, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. Fire safety in Ostend falls to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Environmental health officers from Maldon council inspect food businesses in Ostend. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
Bursars and site managers at schools such as Ormiston Rivers Academy tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

What affects the quote in Ostend
The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- The number of sites or systems
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- How big the system is
Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.
Helping us quote
What to send for a quote:
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
To get a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We normally come back within one working day.
Ostend: your questions answered
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Ostend?
Ostend is in the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Do you cover smaller places like Ostend?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Ostend is covered. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need and the fixed quote is built on it.
Can I just have the canopy cleaned instead of the whole system?
You can have the canopy cleaned on its own, but it will not cover the ductwork or fan. TR19 Grease covers everything the grease travels through, at intervals set by BESA guidance.
Do you provide pictures of the cleaned canopy?
Before and after pictures go into a report, listing what was cleaned. A full TR19 clean adds a certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
How long is a canopy clean?
A single canopy with a light build-up is fairly quick, while long canopies, several hoods or heavy deposits take more time. You will know before we start.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.
Who has the legal duty for fire safety?
The law calls them the responsible person. That’s generally the employer or the person in control of the premises, and where several people have control, each can have duties. If you are not sure, check your lease and fire risk assessment.
Multi-site and managed buildings
We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.
For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.

Why act early in Ostend
Getting the canopy cleaned in Ostend now saves a bigger job later. It takes a few hours for most canopies, out of hours so service carries on. Put off, the grease simply moves further into the system. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
Why Ostend businesses choose us

- A BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease

How the job changes from site to site
Pub and hotel kitchens
Pub and hotel kitchens can cook from breakfast to late evening. That’s a lot of grease on the canopy, so it may need cleaning between full TR19 cleans.
Plenums and filter housings
The plenum is the space behind the filters where air gathers before entering the duct. Grease that slips past the filters settles there, so it’s scraped and degreased on every canopy clean.
