About extract fan cleaning in Surrey

Kitchen extract fans come in different forms: fans on the roof, fans built into the duct run, and fans on an outside wall. Each is isolated and opened in its own way and the survey shows us how to reach it. The work covers fan housings, axial fans and centrifugal fans, and people most often call us about rough running from the extract fan and an extract fan with no cleaning record.

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. The middle part takes longest, and that takes an hour or two for most single fans.

  1. We start by checking where the fan sits and how to isolate it.
  2. With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
  3. We remove the grease from the blades, impeller and casing.
  4. The fan and its surrounds are degreased, keeping clear of the motor’s electrics.
  5. The fan is put back into service, checked and photographed.

What affects the price in Surrey

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.

We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then give you a fixed quote. To get going, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Kitchen extracts across Surrey

Our extract fan cleaning work across Surrey takes in places such as Guildford, Woking and Camberley and the villages in between. We cover every place we list for Surrey, 395 in all, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.

Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites in Surrey can keep trading.

Guildford: If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Sandfield Primary School or anywhere near Guildford, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St John the Evangelist or elsewhere in Guildford, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

What happens if it’s left?

The fan is part of the fire path. TR19® Grease covers the whole extract, fan included and many insurers require the full system to be cleaned to TR19.

What the work involves, part by part

Inline duct fans

An inline fan can be easy to forget because it’s out of sight. The survey makes sure it’s part of the clean.

Wall fans

A wall fan pushes the air straight outside. We isolate it, then clean the blades and housing.

Between visits

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep access to the fan clear
  • Check filters are seated before cooking
  • Keep the fan on whenever the range is lit
  • Book the fan into every full TR19 clean

You get before and after pictures of the impeller and housing. It lists what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, along with the recommended next clean date.

Keep the route to the fan clear. Clear access means it’s never left out of a clean, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Surrey. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

Signs you need extract fan cleaning

By the time air reaches the fan, it has passed the canopy, filters and duct. The grease that is left lands on the blades and the casing, and the spinning blades fling it onto the walls of the housing.

Clients normally contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Less air being pulled from the kitchen
  • A smell of hot grease from the extract
  • Fat spreading onto the roof or wall by the fan
  • An extract fan with no cleaning record

Surrey questions

Do you work out of hours?

Yes. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote and we will plan the visit around them.

How often does the fan need cleaning?

With the whole system, at intervals set by BESA guidance: from 3-monthly for heavy use to 12-monthly for light use. A noisy or heavily coated fan may need it sooner.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site across London and the South East, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.

What does TR19 mean?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. We always survey first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. Then you get a fixed quote.

Will I get photos of the cleaned fan?

Photos, notes on condition and a recommended next date. Keep it with your maintenance log.

What accreditations do you have?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we’re fully insured.
