About kitchen extract cleaning in KT9
Think of it as a health check for the kitchen’s airways: survey first, clean second, sign-off last. The sign-off is a TR19 certificate with a photo report, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. The work covers discharge points, plenums and filters and extract fans, and people most often call us about stale cooking odours from the system and a new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history.
We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the whole system and its access points.
- Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
- After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
- Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
- Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.
What you’ll pay
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Kitchen extract cleaning around KT9
In KT9, a busy kitchen in a place such as Chessington, Hook and Ditton Hill and a quiet village kitchen need very different cleaning intervals. The right interval comes from hours of use and grease readings.
We work across London and the South East, and KT9 is part of that area. Every job is surveyed first and quoted at a fixed price.
Chessington: For kitchens close to Chessington North station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Tolworth Hospital is the nearest hospital to Chessington, about 1.2 miles north-east.
When it’s something else
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- Faulty fire dampers in the duct
- Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
- A duct that’s holed or coming apart
What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- Parking and loading at the site
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- The condition of the system
- Any permits to work or inductions
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.
What we need to know
What to send for a quote:
- Problems your staff have spotted
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before work begins.
Between visits
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
- Wash or exchange the filters often
- Diarise the next clean as soon as you get the certificate
- Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit
The kitchen is left clean and ready for the next service. Waste grease and water are contained and removed, so you can start cooking as normal.
Keep the fan on throughout service. Switching it off early leaves vapour to settle on the canopy and plenum, and the next clean has more to do.
What we’re called out for in KT9
Grease filters are the first line of defence, and they’re often the weak point. Filters that are bent, badly fitted, missing or left uncleaned let more fat into the plenum and duct, and from there it travels on to the fan.
The symptoms we are asked about most include:
- Rancid smells from grease in the duct
- Cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey
- Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
- Grease dripping from the canopy or filters
Part by part
Restaurant and pub kitchens
Grills, fryers and woks send a lot of fat into the extract, so grease readings help set the right interval.
Schools, hospitals and care homes
Even a kitchen that cooks only a few hours a day needs cleaning at least every 12 months under BESA guidance. School holidays are an easy time to do it.
Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in KT9
Are you a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member?
We clean to BESA TR19® Grease as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, with certificates issued through the BESCA portal. Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
By covering it before any work starts. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.
Do insurers need proof of extract cleaning?
Grease in an extract is a known fire risk, which is why many insurers require TR19 cleaning. Our certificate and photo report give you that evidence.
How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost?
Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Ask us for a fixed quote and we’ll normally reply within one working day.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, 24/7. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few pictures and any previous report.
How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?
Under BESA guidance, the minimum depends on how long you cook each day: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Grease readings can show a shorter interval is needed.
