Kitchen extract cleaning in GU24: how it works
A kitchen extract system is far more than the canopy you can see. Behind it sit the plenum and grease filters, then the ductwork, risers, extract fan and discharge, and grease settles in every one of them. Our clean follows the air from canopy to discharge, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’re often asked to deal with a TR19 certificate needed for the insurer and rancid smells from grease in the duct, on canopies and hoods, discharge points and plenums and filters.
We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before work begins, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one.
- We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
- On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
- Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
- We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.
What affects the price in GU24
No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

Getting a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before any work starts.
What’s near West End

Kitchen extract cleaning around GU24
From Woking, West End and Knaphill to its smaller places, GU24 has kitchens of every size. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.
London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. Wherever the site is in GU24, the work is done to the same TR19® standard.
West End: Church and community hall kitchens, near Holy Trinity or anywhere around West End, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Holy Trinity CofE Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.
What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning
The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- The condition we find in the survey
- How big the system is
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.
Helping us quote
Many jobs can be priced from photos and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- A few general shots of the system
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
For landlords and multi-site operators
Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.
What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix
To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed
- Fire dampers that won’t close (that needs damper testing and remedials)
- A broken extract fan that will not run
Leave it or put it right?
Leaving the clean until the next refit doesn’t make the grease go away. Over time, soft grease bakes into a harder, thicker crust, which is slower to clean. Staying on a regular cycle keeps each clean manageable.
Comparing quotes
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- What paperwork you get at the end
- If they look at the system before pricing
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
Keeping the system healthy
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:
- Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
- Keep the TR19 certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
- Report grease drips, smells or fan noise straight away
- Book the next clean before the date on the report
You get a photo report after every clean. Before and after pictures show each part of the system, and lists what was cleaned, any areas we couldn’t reach and the date the next clean is due.
Keep the fan on throughout service. Switching it off early leaves vapour to settle on the canopy and plenum, and the next clean has more to do.
Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in GU24
How much notice should we give?
It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
What do you need from me for a quote?
The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, plus photos of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?
As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, our work sits within an independently audited scheme. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, 24/7. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, and the emergency line covers the rest.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.
How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?
BESA guidance gives minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months, depending on daily cooking hours. Kitchens that fry or grill a lot may need cleaning sooner, which grease thickness testing will show.
Does the law say I must clean to TR19?
TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19 is the benchmark used to show extract grease is under control.
