Kitchen extract cleaning in RH10: how it works
Insurers often want evidence of regular TR19 cleaning, and some may refuse or reduce a claim when it’s missing. The certificate and photo report from each clean in RH10 give you that record, ready for the fire risk assessment file. The work covers horizontal duct runs, extract fans and discharge points, and the jobs we see most are a smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction and a kitchen with no current TR19 certificate.
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one, and the area is cleaned down before we leave.
- We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
- We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
- The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
- We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
- We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.
Pricing in RH10

How to get a quote
There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To start, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
What’s near Crawley
In Crawley, that means kitchens and buildings near Friary Church of St Francis and St Anthony, St Wilfrid's Catholic School and Tilgate Park. Nearby too are The George Hotel (within half a mile north), Three Bridges Junior School (less than half a mile south-east) and St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School (less than half a mile south-east). Crawley has its own railway station: Crawley station. Nearby you will also find Crawley Hospital (0.5 miles north-west) and County Mall (less than half a mile north-east). For a walk, there’s Tilgate Lake.
Kitchen extracts across RH10
From Crawley, Broadfield and Bewbush to its smaller places, RH10 has kitchens of every size. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.
RH10 is within the area we cover, which takes in London and the South East. Every job is surveyed first and quoted at a fixed price.
Crawley: A hospital like Crawley Hospital, about 0.5 miles north-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Three Bridges Junior School or anywhere near Crawley, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
For landlords and multi-site operators
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.
Why act early?
A clogged extract does not only raise the fire risk. Filters block, airflow drops and the kitchen gets hotter and smokier, while the fan works harder to move less air. Grease drips, smells and condensation are common next.
Questions to ask before booking
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
- Whether the figure could change on the day
- Whether a written report and photos are included
When something else is needed
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed
- Ductwork that is corroded, split or leaking (that is for a ductwork contractor)
- A grease trap that needs emptying
What affects the quote in RH10
Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:
- The size of the system
- Any permits to work or inductions
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The condition of the system
What you pay depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- A few general shots of the system
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- The site address and the type of premises
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, a few photos and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
FAQs for RH10
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and you’ll get one fixed quote.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
Are you a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.
What information do you need?
The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, plus photos of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
What’s TR19?
It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked and expects a risk-based approach.
What about areas you can’t get to?
The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.
How often should a kitchen extract be cleaned?
BESA guidance gives minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months, depending on daily cooking hours. Kitchens that fry or grill a lot may need cleaning sooner, and readings will tell you.
