How kitchen extract cleaning works in RH1

A kitchen extract system is far more than the canopy you can see. Beyond the filters run the plenum, the ducts and risers, the fan and the point where air leaves the building, and grease settles in every one of them. Our clean follows the air from canopy to discharge, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The work covers vertical risers, discharge points and extract fans, and common reasons people get in touch are stale cooking odours from the system and years of baked-on grease in the ducts.

We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your photos. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, it takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.

  1. We survey the system, from your photos or on site, canopy to discharge.
  2. We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
  3. On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
  4. We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
  5. We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.

Pricing in RH1

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before work begins.

Why book with us

  • A fixed price before any work starts
  • Each visit written up, with pictures
  • In business since 2009
  • Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus 24/7 emergency callout

How to get a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Local landmarks in Redhill

Typical jobs here are in premises near St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Saint Matthew's Church and The Carrington School and the streets around them. You will also find White Lion Public House (less than half a mile west), Nutfield Marshes (0.9 miles north-east) and Dunottar School (0.8 miles south-west). Redhill has its own railway station: Redhill station. A little further out are The Belfry (within half a mile north) and Surrey Fire Museum (1.2 miles west). Green spaces nearby include Colley Hill and Reigate Heath.

Where we work in RH1

In RH1, a busy kitchen in a place such as Redhill, Reigate and South Merstham and a quiet village kitchen need very different cleaning intervals. The right interval comes from hours of use and grease readings.

Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites in RH1 can keep trading.

Redhill: If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as St Joseph's Catholic Primary School or anywhere near Redhill, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. A kitchen near Redhill station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval.

Signs you need kitchen extract cleaning

In RH1, as anywhere, grease gathers where the air slows down: long horizontal runs, bends, the base of risers and around the fan. Cooler sections of duct collect the most.

Clients normally contact us when they notice one of these:

  • An inspection that picked up a dirty extract
  • Rancid smells from grease in the duct
  • A smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction
  • Cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey

For landlords and multi-site operators

From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Between visits

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Don’t let the canopy gutters overflow
  • Keep to the recommended cleaning interval
  • Report grease drips, smells or fan noise straight away
  • Run the extract fan throughout cooking

A TR19 certificate notes the date, the location and the technician. File it with the fire risk assessment and the maintenance log so it’s ready when anyone asks to see it.

Tell whoever looks after the system when something changes. Drips, odours and fan noise often mean grease is building, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.

Honest limits

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Ductwork that’s corroded, split or leaking (that’s for a ductwork contractor)
  • An undersized canopy or fan
  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)

Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in RH1

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we will quote them together.

What about areas you can’t get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

How much notice should we give?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

What information do you need?

A short description and a few photos plus the address and your hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Often, yes. With good photos, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.
