TR19 cleaning across Greater London

Kitchen extract cleaning across Greater London: what to expect

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract systems since 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. We’re often asked to deal with ductwork thick with old, hardened grease and a system with no record of a TR19 clean, across extract fans, plenums and filters and discharge points.

We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by pictures or a visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before work begins.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
  5. Readings and photos are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

What you will pay

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What you get with us

  • CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, with ISO 9001
  • Member of BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
  • A fixed price before any work starts
  • One number for every site across the South East and London

How to get a quote

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and photos, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Local landmarks in London

Around London, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near St Mary-at-Hill, St George the Martyr and The BFI Reuben Library and the streets around them. Also close by are Trinity Arms Public House (under half a mile south-east), Ark Globe Academy (less than half a mile south), Charles Dickens Primary School (under half a mile north-west) and Newington Gardens (within half a mile south). London has its own railway station: Elephant & Castle station. A little further out are Surrey Dispensary (within half a mile south-east) and Baynard's Castle (0.9 miles north). Kitchen extracts across Greater London

From London, City of Westminster and Marylebone to its smaller places, Greater London has kitchens of every size. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.

Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites in Greater London can keep trading.

London: If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St George the Martyr or elsewhere in London, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. If you run a café or takeaway near Elephant & Castle station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.

When it’s something else

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • An undersized canopy or fan
  • A damper that sticks or has a damaged link
  • A grease trap that needs emptying

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • What state the system is in
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

What to send for a quote

We can often survey from photos. The most useful are:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • A few general shots of the system
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

What the work involves, part by part

Extract fan and discharge

The discharge is where air leaves the building, and grease can collect there too. We clean it where it can be safely reached, and any limits are recorded.

Canopy and plenum

Grease meets the system first at the canopy and the plenum behind the filters. We clean both inside and out, with the filter housing cleaned too.

Between visits

Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
  • Keep grease collection points emptied
  • Switch the fan on before cooking starts
  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment

Any section without access is marked on the report. That’s part of an honest TR19 clean, not a failing, and we can fit access panels so it’s reached next time.

Run the extract whenever the kitchen is cooking. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Greater London questions

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, for many jobs. Send wide shots, close-ups of any access panels and anything that worries you, and we normally come back within one working day. If pictures are not enough, we’ll survey first.

Where does the waste go?

We contain it and take it with us. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.

How far ahead should we book?

The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. We normally quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?

The minimum is set by BESA guidance on daily use, from 3-monthly to 12-monthly. Heavy frying and grilling can mean shorter intervals, and readings will tell you.

Why do insurers care about extract cleaning?

Many insurers ask for proof of regular cleaning to TR19, and many policies require it. An insurer may refuse or reduce a claim if there’s no evidence, so it’s worth checking your policy wording.

What do I get after the clean?

A TR19 certificate, plus a full photo report. It records what was cleaned, what wasn’t accessible and the recommended next clean date.

How long does it take to clean a kitchen extract system?

It takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one. The survey tells us how long your system will need.
