Kitchen extract cleaning in Aldgate

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Kitchen extract cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Aldgate

The canopy over the range is only the start of a kitchen extract system. Behind it sit the plenum and grease filters, then the ductwork, risers, extract fan and discharge, and grease settles in every one of them. Our clean follows the air from canopy to discharge, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’re often asked to deal with extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit and heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs, across extract fans, canopies and hoods and horizontal duct runs. Need a TR19 duct cleaning contractor for Aldgate? We’ve been cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member.

What can be cleaned depends on what can be reached. Sections without access panels are recorded on the report, and new panels can be fitted so they’re cleaned next time.

In London, few kitchens can spare a day to close, so extract cleaning in Aldgate is usually done overnight, after the last service. Parking, loading and access to the roof are agreed with the building before the night of the clean.

The report is your system’s health record: a dated account with photos of everything we did. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

FAQs for Aldgate

Can you work in Aldgate outside opening hours?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The site is handed back ready to open. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Can parking be tricky for a job in Aldgate?

London parking can be tight, so details of loading bays and permits help. If the building has a loading slot system, we’ll book into it.

Which parts of the extract do you clean?

Everything from canopy to discharge: canopy inside and out, plenum, grease filters, ductwork, risers, extract fan and discharge, plus attenuators where fitted. Any part without access is noted.

Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?

Strictly, the legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, not from TR19. TR19 is the industry benchmark for meeting that duty in a kitchen extract, and an insurer may refuse or reduce a claim without it.

How far ahead should we book?

Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. We normally quote within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

What accreditations do you hold?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

How long does a kitchen extract clean take?

Short systems are done in a few hours, while long runs and tall risers take longer and may need more than one visit. We’ll tell you how long when we quote.

Aftercare tips

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
  • Refit filters properly after cleaning
  • Diarise the next clean as soon as you get the certificate

If we couldn’t get into part of the duct, the report says so plainly. A TR19 report should record what wasn’t cleaned as well as what was, and we can fit access panels so it’s reached next time.

Clean the grease filters often, not just on clean day. A filter that is clean and seated properly stops more grease getting into the plenum, so the ductwork stays cleaner for longer.

What happens on the day

Each visit runs to the same pattern: sheeting and protection first, make the system safe, do the work, tidy up and hand over the paperwork. The visit itself takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. If your building in Aldgate has sign-in rules, permits or key holders, mention them when you book.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
  2. Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

Advice

What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix

Not every problem is solved by kitchen extract cleaning, and we will tell you before we start. It won’t put right:

  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • Extraction that cannot cope with the cooking because of its design
  • Ductwork that’s corroded, split or leaking (that is for a ductwork contractor)

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What the work covers

  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Plenums and filters
  • Discharge points
  • Extract fans
  • Canopies and hoods

Aldgate kitchens: local notes

There are about 2,474 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 892 sandwich bars and takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Aldgate, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Those that fry, grill or roast under a canopy need their extracts cleaned at intervals set by how long they cook. It’s the City of London Corporation that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Aldgate. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Overnight is the normal time to clean a London kitchen extract, so trading isn’t affected.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St James Duke's Place, or anywhere in Aldgate, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If you run a café or takeaway near London Fenchurch Street station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. Term dates shape school work: for a school like The Aldgate School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Part by part

Extract fan and discharge

Grease that reaches the fan coats the blades and the housing. It’s isolated, opened and cleaned as part of the TR19 clean.

Schools, hospitals and care homes

In a care home or hospital, the kitchen may cook every day of the year. We plan the clean around meal times and work in a contained, tidy way with as little disruption as possible.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

Fixed quotes for kitchen extract cleaning in Aldgate

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The number of sites or systems
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Where the site is and how we reach it

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Helping us quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Any previous report or certificate

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
