Commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Herne Hill

Has the extract gone a while without a clean, or has the paperwork gone missing? Just ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with pictures of the canopy and filters, and we will come back with a fixed price for the work in Herne Hill, normally within one working day. Typical jobs include proof of cleaning requested by an insurer and heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs, on canopies and hoods, vertical risers and discharge points. Kitchen extract cleaning, TR19 cleaning, extraction cleaning: whatever you call it, it’s the job we do every week across Greater London.

Most kitchens in Herne Hill fall into one of BESA’s three bands: every 3 months for 12–16 hours, every 6 months for 6–12 hours and every 12 months for 2–6 hours, adjusted by what the grease readings show.

Kitchens in Herne Hill, like many across London, can share a building with flats or offices, with the duct running up through shared risers. Grease in a duct like that is a fire risk to the whole building, not just the kitchen, which is why keeping it clean to TR19® matters.

We have been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

Herne Hill: your questions answered

Do you work overnight in Herne Hill?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Herne Hill doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we’ll book within them.

Which fire service covers Herne Hill?

Fire safety enforcement in Herne Hill is handled by London Fire Brigade. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

Can you price the work without visiting?

In many cases, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.

What do you do with what you remove?

We contain it and take it with us. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go, so it does not spread.

What about areas you cannot get to?

The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

How long does a kitchen extract clean take?

Short systems are done in a few hours, but large systems may be spread over more than one visit. Your quote says how long to expect.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Herne Hill

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

Leave it or put it right?

Leaving the clean until the next refit doesn’t make the grease go away. Over time, soft grease bakes into a harder, thicker crust, which is slower to clean. Regular cleans keep each visit shorter. London sites work long hours, and the longer a job is left, the bigger it gets.

What you pay depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

The process

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. Most London sites cannot stop for the day, so work in Herne Hill is typically done overnight, early in the morning or at weekends.

  1. We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
  2. Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
  3. On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
  4. Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, photos taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

How to prepare

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

Ask for a quote

For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We normally come back within one working day.

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Grills, fryers and woks send a lot of fat into the extract, so grease readings help set the right interval.

Grease filters

A filter that’s missing or bent lets grease straight past. We check they fit as they should when we refit them, and flag any that don’t.

Kitchen extract cleaning in Herne Hill: the local picture

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 87 pubs and bars and about 5 hotels and B&Bs across Herne Hill and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Overnight is the normal time to clean a London kitchen extract, so trading is not affected. Herne Hill is covered by London Fire Brigade. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Saint Faith's or elsewhere in Herne Hill, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. For schools such as Judith Kerr Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. How we price kitchen extract cleaning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The scale of the work

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before any work starts.

What we need to know

What to send for a quote:

  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what kitchen extract cleaning won’t do:

  • A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed
  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • A duct that’s holed or coming apart

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will tell you honestly.

Aftercare tips

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Flag any change in how the extract sounds or works
  • Give the canopy a daily wipe
  • Never cook with filters missing or out of place
  • Book the next clean before the date on the report

The report gives a recommended date for the next clean, based on your cooking hours and the grease we measured. We can put the system on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly plan, so the date is not missed.

Book the next clean before the last one runs out. If the kitchen starts cooking longer hours, the interval should be looked at again, and grease readings will show it.
