What the work involves, part by part

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Busy restaurant and pub kitchens often cook for long hours, frying and grilling, so their cleaning interval is often 3 or 6 months under BESA guidance. Cleans are done after close, overnight or before opening.

Schools, hospitals and care homes

School kitchens can look lightly used but still need a TR19 clean at least every 12 months under BESA guidance. Holidays make it simple to schedule.

TR19 kitchen extract cleaning in Wimbledon

Any kitchen we clean in Wimbledon gets exactly the same specification as everywhere else we work. The job starts with a survey and grease readings, then works through canopy, plenum, filters, ductwork, fan and discharge. At the finish there’s a TR19 certificate and a before and after photo report. If you have grease smells coming from the extract and a kitchen with no current TR19 certificate, we can put it right, from canopies and hoods, plenums and filters and horizontal duct runs onwards. Kitchen extract cleaning, TR19 cleaning, extraction cleaning: whatever you call it, it’s the job we do every week across Greater London.

The fire risk in a kitchen extract sits in the parts nobody sees: the plenum, the duct and the fan, so that is where most of the work in Wimbledon goes.

Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. In Wimbledon, as elsewhere in the capital, a long duct run means more access points to open and more grease to remove.

The report is your system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

Kitchen extract cleaning in Wimbledon: the local picture

Look up Wimbledon on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 282 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 52 takeaways and sandwich shops within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Wimbledon. Any of them cooking under a canopy is sending grease into its ductwork every service. London Fire Brigade covers Wimbledon. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Overnight is the normal time to clean a London kitchen extract, so trading isn’t affected.

Commuter trade near Wimbledon station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St. Mark's Church or elsewhere in Wimbledon, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

What affects the quote in Wimbledon

Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The size of the system

Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

For kitchen extract cleaning in Wimbledon, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, and send pictures or your last report if you can. We usually send a fixed quote within one working day.

For landlords and multi-site operators

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in Wimbledon

Do you work overnight in Wimbledon?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. That way a site in Wimbledon doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. When you ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos, mention when the site is quiet.

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Wimbledon during the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Food Standards Agency records list about 34 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Wimbledon. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

Is Wimbledon in your area?

Yes. We cover Wimbledon and the rest of Greater London, within our South East and London area. For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Every site has its own report.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

We record them on the report, with photos where possible, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. For many sites, pictures and a few details are enough, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • A canopy that is too small or a system that was badly designed
  • A duct that’s holed or coming apart
  • A grease trap that needs emptying

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will say what we think before booking.

What the work covers

  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Discharge points
  • Plenums and filters
  • Vertical risers
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Extract fans

What we are called out for in Wimbledon

What’s on the menu matters as much as how much is cooked. Frying, grilling and roasting send far more fat into the canopy than steaming or boiling, which is why grease readings matter more than the calendar.

Common reasons sites call us include:

  • An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
  • Fat running down the canopy edge
  • Grease smells coming from the extract
  • Poor airflow at the canopy

A hospital like Atkinson Morley Hospital, about 1.2 miles west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the price is fixed
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • Whether the quote shows VAT

What we do, step by step

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. In Wimbledon, as across London, we typically work overnight or at weekends and hand the site back ready to open.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the whole system and its access points.
  2. Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
