Kitchen extract cleaning for sites in Fortune Green

Common questions in Fortune Green

Can the work in Fortune Green be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. That way a site in Fortune Green doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Which fire authority looks after Fortune Green?

Fire safety enforcement in Fortune Green is handled by London Fire Brigade. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. For many sites, pictures and a few details are enough, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

Do you work in Fortune Green?

Yes. We work in Fortune Green and across Greater London, as part of our work across South East England and London. To book, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

What types of premises do you cover?

Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

Does the law say I must clean to TR19?

The legal duty sits in the Fire Safety Order 2005 rather than in TR19 itself. In practice, TR19 is how kitchens show they’re managing grease, and many insurers ask for proof of it.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

How we handle kitchen extract cleaning in Fortune Green

Every time food is cooked, warm vapour carries fat up into the extract. As it cools, it clings to the inside of the ductwork and keeps building. That film is fuel, and cleaning the whole system is how you keep it under control. If you have ductwork thick with old, hardened grease and a TR19 certificate needed for the insurer, we can put it right. Kitchen extract cleaning, TR19 cleaning, extraction cleaning: whatever you call it, in Fortune Green it means the same thing to us: the whole system, cleaned and certificated.

Each job starts with a look at where grease has built up: wet film or deposit thickness readings show which parts of the duct need the most attention, and readings afterwards go into your report.

London kitchens are often tucked into basements or the back of a building, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. In Fortune Green, as elsewhere in the capital, a long duct run means more access points to open and more grease to remove.

A written report with photos follows each visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before we start, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time. Loading bays, visitor permits and roof access are the first things we ask about for a site in Fortune Green.

  1. We survey the system first, from your photos and details or on a site visit.
  2. We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Advice

What staff can safely do

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.

Looking after it afterwards

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Give the canopy a daily wipe
  • Never cook with filters missing or out of place
  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell

The certificate records when the clean was done, where and by whom. Keep it in the maintenance log with your fire risk assessment, so it’s to hand when an insurer, fire officer or EHO asks.

Run the extract whenever the kitchen is cooking. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.

What we’re called out for in Fortune Green

Cooking fat leaves the pan as a fine vapour. Once it cools inside the ductwork, it condenses onto every surface it touches, building a layer that gets thicker with every service. Filters catch some of it, but never all.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • An extract that no longer clears the smoke
  • An extract that has never been cleaned to TR19
  • Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
  • Missing paperwork after a change of operator

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as St Luke's Church of England School or anywhere near Fortune Green, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We take into account:

  • The times the site is available
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why we survey first, from photos or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

Helping us quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:

  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

What happens if it’s left?

A clogged extract doesn’t only raise the fire risk. Blocked filters and narrowed ducts slow the airflow, leaving the kitchen hot and smoky and the fan strains to keep up. Smells, dripping grease and condensation often follow. For a site in Fortune Green, fitting the work in overnight now is far easier than closing at short notice later.

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

Why book with us

  • We diagnose before we treat
  • A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
  • Fixed quotes, typically within one working day
  • We’re fully insured

Multi-site and managed buildings

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit ends with a dated report and photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Fortune Green kitchens: local notes

Any of them cooking under a canopy is sending grease into its ductwork every service. It’s Barnet council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Fortune Green. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Overnight is the normal time to clean a London kitchen extract, so trading isn’t affected.

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Luke or elsewhere in Fortune Green, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. A hospital like New End Hospital, about 0.7 miles east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.
