Kitchen extract cleaning in North End

How we handle kitchen extract cleaning in North End

We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. The work covers horizontal duct runs, extract fans and plenums and filters, and the jobs we see most are grease dripping from the canopy or filters and a new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history. Canopy cleaning, extract cleaning and duct cleaning are often used to mean the same thing, but in North End, as everywhere, the insurer wants the full system cleaned, not just the hood.

BESA sets minimum intervals by hours of cooking a day: every 3 months for 12–16 hours, every 6 months for 6–12 hours and every 12 months for 2–6 hours, with grease readings setting the real interval.

In London, few kitchens can spare a day to close, so work in North End is normally booked for the night or the early hours. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. On site, the work takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. Managed blocks in London often need contractors booked in ahead, and we are happy to deal with the agent directly for a site in North End.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by pictures or a visit.
  2. We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
  5. Finally the system is re-tested and photographed, and the certificate and report follow.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Ask for a quote

Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few photos and any previous report or certificate. Then phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Advice

Keeping the system healthy

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
  • Don’t let the canopy gutters overflow
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit

A TR19 certificate notes the date, the location and the technician. Keep it in the maintenance log with your fire risk assessment so it’s ready when anyone asks to see it.

Wipe the canopy down regularly and empty grease troughs or collection points. A daily wipe is not a deep clean, but it helps between visits.

Part by part

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Busy restaurant and pub kitchens often cook for long hours, frying and grilling, so their cleaning interval is often 3 or 6 months under BESA guidance. We clean after close or before opening.

Extract fan and discharge

At the end of the system is the discharge, which can collect grease and stain the surface around it. It’s cleaned as far as safe access allows, and any limits are recorded.

Signs you need kitchen extract cleaning in North End

A lot of duct grease gets there because the filters let it through. Damaged, missing or overloaded filters let grease straight past, and from there it travels on to the fan.

Clients typically contact us when they notice one of these:

  • A TR19 certificate needed for the insurer
  • A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
  • Stale cooking odours from the system
  • Fat running down the canopy edge

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Alban the Martyr or elsewhere in North End, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • How big the system is
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Site rules, permits and inductions

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

What to send for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • The site address and the type of premises

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Honest limits

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • A grease trap that needs emptying
  • Faulty fire dampers in the duct
  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll tell you honestly.

Where we work

  • Extract fans
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Vertical risers
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Plenums and filters
  • Discharge points

Multi-site and managed buildings

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

FAQs for North End

Which environmental health team covers North End?

The local authority for North End is Barnet council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Do you work at weekends in North End?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. Your customers, staff or residents in North End needn’t be disturbed. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, if we can see what we need. If not, a site survey comes first, and the quote follows that.

Do you clean the whole extract system or just the canopy?

All of it, from the canopy through to the discharge. Where there are not enough access panels to reach a section, it’s recorded, and we can fit new ones.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. For many sites, pictures and a few details are enough, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?

Every clean comes with a TR19 certificate and a photo report. They belong in the maintenance log so they’re to hand when an insurer asks.

Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?

We clean to BESA TR19® Grease as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, with certificates issued through the BESCA portal. We have been trading since 2009.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.

Grease, kitchens and North End

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 49 pubs, bars and clubs and about 20 hotels and guest houses in North End and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. In North End, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Barnet council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Most London extract cleaning happens at night, after the last service.

Bursars and site managers at schools such as The King Alfred School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like New End Hospital about 0.7 miles south, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

North End is about 1 mile north of Greenhill, in Greater London.
