Kitchen extract cleaning near Bakers Arms

What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix

Not every problem is solved by kitchen extract cleaning, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It won’t put right:

  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing
  • A fan motor that has burnt out

If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.

How we handle kitchen extract cleaning in Bakers Arms

A closed kitchen isn’t earning, so the timing of a clean matters. Cleans are booked for evenings, overnight or weekends, or during holidays where a site closes for them. With the equipment off and cool and the area sheeted, we clean and hand the kitchen back ready for the next service. The work covers vertical risers, horizontal duct runs and canopies and hoods, and the jobs we see most are poor airflow at the canopy and grease dripping from the canopy or filters. Some call it canopy cleaning, others extract cleaning or duct cleaning, but a proper TR19® clean in Bakers Arms covers all of it, from the hood to the fan.

We clean every reachable part of the system in Bakers Arms: canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers and fan, and the discharge where it can be reached.

Kitchens in Bakers Arms, like many across London, can share a building with flats or offices, with the duct running up through shared risers. A duct fire there can reach parts of the building far from the range, so a regular TR19® clean protects everyone in it.

The report is your system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, ready for your insurer.

Between visits

Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Keep the TR19 certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
  • Keep the baffle filters clean
  • Book the next clean before the date on the report

After cleaning, we re-test the same points we measured at the start, so you can see the difference in numbers as well as pictures. Your TR19 certificate is then issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Run the extract whenever the kitchen is cooking. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.

Questions from Bakers Arms

Which fire service covers Bakers Arms?

That’s London Fire Brigade. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Bakers Arms during the holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 29 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Bakers Arms. You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos with the dates the site is empty.

What about areas you cannot get to?

They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.

What is TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

What should I send you?

Only a few details: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. After that, simply ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Which sectors do you work in?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, as well as food production and leisure sites.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

How much notice do you need?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

Common problems we fix in Bakers Arms

Grease in an extract starts as vapour. Once it cools inside the ductwork, it condenses onto every surface it touches, and the layer grows a little with every meal cooked. Filters catch some of it, but never all.

Common reasons sites call us include:

  • Stale cooking odours from the system
  • Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
  • Years of baked-on grease in the ducts
  • Poor airflow at the canopy

Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Bakers Arms is Wanstead Hospital, about 1.8 miles east.

Before booking anyone

  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • How areas they cannot reach will be recorded

Our hiring checklist

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

Different parts, different methods

Canopy and plenum

Canopies vary from a single hood to long runs over several appliances, every section is cleaned and recorded in the photo report before and after.

Schools, hospitals and care homes

In a care home or hospital, the kitchen may cook every day of the year. We plan the clean around meal times and work in a contained, tidy way, so residents and patients aren’t disturbed.

Bakers Arms kitchens: local notes

Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Church and community hall kitchens, near St Stephen's or anywhere around Bakers Arms, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Thomas Gamuel Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

Why it’s worth doing now in Bakers Arms

A clogged extract doesn’t only raise the fire risk. Blocked filters and narrowed ducts slow the airflow, leaving the kitchen hot and smoky and the fan strains to keep up. Smells, dripping grease and condensation often follow. Leaving it on a busy London site only adds to the work.

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

What we do, step by step

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and pictures. The middle part takes longest, which takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system. Expect the work in Bakers Arms to happen after your last customer leaves, not during trading.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by pictures or a visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before work begins.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before we start.
