Kitchen extract cleaning in Whitton, done properly

Any kitchen we clean in Whitton gets exactly the same specification as everywhere else we work. The job starts with a survey and grease readings, then works through canopy, plenum, filters, ductwork, fan and discharge. You get a TR19 certificate and a photo report at the end. If you have ductwork thick with old, hardened grease and grease smells coming from the extract, we can put it right. Searching for commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Whitton? We have been cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member.

Grease that collects out of sight, behind the filters and along the duct, is what insurers and fire officers worry about, so that’s where most of the work in Whitton goes.

Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, with extract ducts that can climb several floors to discharge at roof level. In Whitton, as elsewhere in the capital, a long duct run means more access points to open and more grease to remove.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Aftercare tips

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Diarise the next clean as soon as you get the certificate

When the clean is finished, grease readings are taken again at the same points, giving you before and after readings alongside the pictures. Your TR19 certificate is then issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Keep the fan on throughout service. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system. Before any visit in Whitton, we agree where the van can stop and how equipment reaches the system.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
  2. We record grease levels at set points, then fix the price.
  3. After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
  4. The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

How to get a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before work begins.

Advice

What staff can safely do

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

When it’s something else

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • A duct that is holed or coming apart
  • Faulty fire dampers in the duct
  • Extraction that cannot cope with the cooking because of its design

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Extract fans
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Vertical risers
  • Discharge points
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Plenums and filters

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Greater London. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in Whitton

Can you come to Whitton after we close?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Whitton needn’t be disturbed. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Whitton in the summer holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Food Standards Agency records list about 22 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Whitton. Just call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your term dates and we will plan around them.

What’s TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?

That comes down mainly to daily cooking hours. BESA’s minimums run from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use. Your report gives a recommended next clean date.

Where does the waste go?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.

Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

What types of premises do you cover?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

Different parts, different methods

Canopy and plenum

The canopy catches the vapour, and the plenum behind the filters is where it first condenses. Both are scraped and degreased inside and out, including the filter housing.

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Losing a service isn’t an option for most restaurants and pubs. Overnight and weekend cleans keep the kitchen trading, and hand back a clean kitchen ready to cook.

Whitton kitchens: local notes

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 44 pubs, bars and clubs and about 3 hotels and guest houses across Whitton and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Food hygiene inspections in Whitton are the job of Richmond-Upon-Thames council’s environmental health team. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Most London extract cleaning happens at night, after the last service.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near All Saints Church, or anywhere in Whitton, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If you run a café or takeaway near Whitton station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Royal Military School of Music tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • The size of the system
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Helping us quote

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
