TR19 inspection across East Sussex: what to expect
Before any clean in East Sussex, we survey the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, fan and discharge. We check where the access panels are and whether every section can be reached, and record grease readings at set points. Common call-outs are for kitchens whose menu or hours have changed and sections of duct that can’t be reached, on pre-clean surveys, wet film thickness tests and post-clean checks.
Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems.
- After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
- The same access points are opened up.
- We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
- We photograph each area to record how it was left.
- We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.
How we quote
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.
Why book with us
- A fixed price before any work starts
- Survey first, then a fixed quote
- One contact for all your sites in London and the South East
- Trading since 2009
Getting a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before work begins.
Local landmarks in Eastbourne
Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to St Andrew, Princes Park and Stafford Junior School and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include The King's Arms Public House (0.9 miles south-east), WMG Academy for Young Engineers (1.5 miles south-west) and Ratton School (1.1 miles west). For rail, the closest station is Hampden Park station, roughly 0.7 miles north-west. A little further out are Pevensey Castle (3 miles north-east) and Royal Sussex Regimental Museum (1 mile south-east). The countryside around Eastbourne includes Combe Hill.
Where we work in East Sussex
In East Sussex, we work in places such as Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea and well beyond. Every place on our East Sussex list (289 in all) is covered, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.
Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites in East Sussex can keep trading. Near the coast in East Sussex, salt and damp speed up corrosion in fans, ducts and dampers, which is worth knowing when systems are inspected.
Eastbourne: A kitchen near Hampden Park station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Stafford Junior School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.
Different parts, different methods
Canopy and plenum
The plenum behind the filters can carry a lot of grease. Readings and photos are taken in the plenum as part of every survey.
Horizontal duct runs
If a run has no access panel, we note it so panels can be added.
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Do not box in or cover duct access panels
- File every inspection report with your certificates
- Tell us if menus or opening hours change
- Diary the next grease test and clean
After post-clean verification, file the results with the cleaning certificate. The pair gives a clear record of the clean and the check.
Fit access panels where the survey finds sections cannot be reached, so grease is not left building in hidden parts.
What your team can do, and what needs us
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.
When it’s something else
We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so here are the limits:
- Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
- Heavy deposits found on test, which still need cleaning
- Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit
What happens if it’s left?
Sites in East Sussex that have never measured grease cannot tell whether their cleaning interval suits the kitchen. Measured readings let a competent person set the interval.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether VAT is included
- What hours they’ll be on site
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Whether they recommend a next date
FAQs for East Sussex
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Every job is surveyed first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where necessary. A fixed quote follows.
What grease levels does TR19 allow?
Two figures matter: a mean of no more than 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns at any single point, which needs immediate spot cleaning. Our report sets your readings against both.
Which accreditations do you hold?
CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we’re fully insured.
How do you protect the area?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before any work starts, and anything we remove is contained. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.
How often should a kitchen extract be inspected?
Each report recommends when to test and clean next, based on the readings and how the kitchen is used. A risk assessment based on measured grease should set the interval.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. TR19® is not law; it’s BESA’s specification. The law is the Fire Safety Order 2005, under which the responsible person must manage fire risk, and insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19® as the benchmark.
Which sectors do you work in?
We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.
