Horizontal duct runs
Sections without access are recorded so it can be fixed before the clean.
Schools, hospitals and care homes
Hospital and care home kitchens can cook all day, every day. Readings show if cleaning is frequent enough.
How we handle TR19 inspection in America Ground
Not every kitchen fits neatly into a calendar. Some kitchens build up grease faster than the minimum intervals assume, and only measurement shows it. We give your risk assessment measured figures rather than guesses. If you’re dealing with cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen and extracts that have never been grease tested, we can help, from pre-clean surveys, insurer audits and wet film thickness tests onwards.
In a smaller place like America Ground, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.
Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That is why every job is written up in a report with pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.
America Ground questions
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in America Ground?
That’s Hastings council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in America Ground. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for America Ground?
Fire safety enforcement in America Ground is handled by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
Is America Ground in your area?
Yes. We cover America Ground and across East Sussex, within our South East and London area. For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
At what point does grease need cleaning?
Between cleans, the mean should stay at 200 microns or below, and anywhere at 500 microns or more needs spot cleaning right away.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Every site has its own report.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.
Are you accredited?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.
How far ahead should we book?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
Why deal with it now?
Surveying first means the clean goes to plan. Missing access panels, hidden duct runs and awkward fans are found before the cleaners arrive, and the quote reflects the real job. Light use slows the build-up but does not stop it.
Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

How it works
Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. On site, the work takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. Getting to the system matters more than parking in a place like America Ground, so let us know how to reach it.
- After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
- The same access points are opened up.
- We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
- We photograph each area to record how it was left.
- We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
Getting a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before we start.
Advice
Keeping the system healthy
Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:
- Share inspection reports with your insurer or broker when asked
- Keep canopy edges and gutters wiped down
- Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs
- Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test
Where sections couldn’t be reached, the report says where access panels would help. Fitting them before the next clean means the whole system gets done.
Close the access gaps found during inspection, so every part of the duct can be cleaned.
What staff can safely do
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.
What TR19 inspection looks like in America Ground
At about 1 mile from the coast, America Ground is close enough for sea air to matter. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. There are about 202 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 77 sandwich bars and takeaways across America Ground and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half), according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. For any of them with a canopy, measuring grease is better than guessing when to clean. Environmental health officers from Hastings council inspect food businesses in America Ground. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.
Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to America Ground is Conquest Hospital, about 2.1 miles north. Bursars and site managers at schools such as University School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

Signs you need TR19 inspection in America Ground
Grease is fuel. A flare-up on the range can be drawn into the canopy and duct, and from there a fire can spread through the ductwork. Knowing how much there is lets you act before it becomes a hazard.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- Heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts
- Confirming a clean reached the whole system
- Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
- Pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean
A kitchen near Hastings station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval.
