TR19 inspection in Forest Row, done properly

BESA sets minimum cleaning intervals by daily use: every 3 months for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day, every 6 months for moderate use of 6 to 12 hours, and every 12 months for light use of 2 to 6 hours. Those are minimums, and grease readings help set the real interval. The work covers insurer audits, deposit thickness tests and pre-clean surveys, and the jobs we see most are extracts that have never been grease tested and missing TR19 certificates or history.

Size does not change the work: a kitchen in a place like Forest Row gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

The report is your system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal, ready for your insurer.

Forest Row questions

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Forest Row?

That’s East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Which council inspects kitchens in Forest Row?

The local authority for Forest Row is Wealden council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Do you cover Forest Row?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, Forest Row included.

What accreditations do you have?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

What does TR19 inspection cost?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll normally reply within one working day.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No, TR19® isn’t legislation. But the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk under the Fire Safety Order 2005, and grease in the extract is part of that. Many insurance policies also require TR19 adherence.

Do you carry out TR19 audits for insurers?

Yes, for kitchens across the South East and London. Share the insurer’s request so the report addresses it.

What happens on a pre-clean survey?

We check the layout, the grease levels and the access, before anyone starts cleaning. Any access problems are flagged ahead of the clean.

The process

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site. Tell us when your site near Forest Row is quiet and the visit will be booked for then.

  1. First we book a time that will not disrupt cooking.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. We take WFTT or DTT readings at set points along the system.
  4. We photograph the test points and record any sections we can’t reach.
  5. The findings go into a report with readings, pictures and a recommended next clean.

Before we arrive

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

What the work involves, part by part

Extract fan and discharge

The extract fan and its housing collect grease too. They’re included in the readings and photos.

Canopy and plenum

Filters can look fine while the plenum behind them is heavily coated. That’s why we test behind them.

Keeping the system healthy

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • Flag oily drips near the extract
  • Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test
  • Book the next test on the date in the report
  • Share inspection reports with your insurer or broker when asked

Where sections couldn’t be reached, the report says where access panels would help. Fitting them before the next clean means the whole system gets done.

Fit access panels where the survey finds sections can’t be reached, so every part of the duct can be cleaned.

Honest limits

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • The legal duty, which stays with the responsible person
  • Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
  • Mechanical faults in the extract

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • The scale of the work

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered and we’ll price it together.

Helping us quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before work begins.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Leave it or put it right?

A pre-clean survey avoids surprises on the night. Missing access panels, hidden duct runs and awkward fans are found before the cleaners arrive, so the clean covers the whole system. A visit arranged in advance is far less disruptive than a callout on a busy day.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before we start.
