How kitchen extract cleaning works in TN6
We have been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are often asked to deal with a smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction and ductwork thick with old, hardened grease, on plenums and filters, horizontal duct runs and vertical risers.
Every visit runs to the same pattern: sheeting and protection first, make the system safe, carry out the kitchen extract cleaning, tidy up and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the whole system and its access points.
- Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
- After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
- The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
- The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Near you in Crowborough

The nearest railway station is Crowborough station, roughly 1 mile south-east. Well-known places in the area include Crowborough War Memorial Hospital (0.5 miles west). For a walk, there’s Crowborough Country Park.
Kitchen extract cleaning around TN6
In TN6, a busy kitchen in a place such as Crowborough, Jarvis Brook and Rotherfield and a quiet village kitchen need very different cleaning intervals. The right interval comes from hours of use and grease readings.
TN6 is within the area we cover, which takes in London and the South East. Every job is surveyed first and quoted at a fixed price, wherever it is in TN6.
Crowborough: A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near The Parish Church of All Saints or elsewhere in Crowborough, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as St Marys Catholic Primary School or anywhere near Crowborough, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
What we’re called out for in TN6
Grease in an extract starts as vapour. Once it cools inside the ductwork, it condenses onto every surface it touches, and the layer grows a little with every meal cooked. The grease filters stop some, never all of it.
The symptoms we’re asked about most are:
- An extract that no longer clears the smoke
- A new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history
- An inspection that picked up a dirty extract
- Rancid smells from grease in the duct
What affects the quote in TN6
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:
- Parking and loading at the site
- How easy every part is to reach
- The number of sites or systems
- The condition we find in the survey
We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.
What we need to know
To speed up the quote, please include:
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- The postcode and the type of business
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
If you need kitchen extract cleaning in TN6, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us. Let us know the site type and the opening hours, and send photos or your last report if you can. A fixed quote normally follows within one working day.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.
What the work involves, part by part
Grease filters
A filter that is missing or bent lets grease straight past. Each filter is checked as it goes back in, and flag any that don’t.
Ductwork and risers
Risers take the extract up through floors to roof level, and grease runs down their walls and pools at the base. Access panels along the riser let us clean it in sections.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
TN6 questions
Is a quote from photos possible?
Yes, if we can see what we need. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.
How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?
The minimum is set by BESA guidance on daily use, from 3-monthly to 12-monthly. Kitchens that fry or grill a lot may need cleaning sooner, and readings will tell you.
What does TR19 mean?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.
How much notice should we give?
Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.
What should I send you?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, plus pictures of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?
Our work is to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, and certificates go through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009.
How long does a kitchen extract clean take?
Allow anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system. The survey tells us how long your system will need.
