TR19 inspection in Cooper's Corner, done properly
Grease thickness testing tells you how much grease is sitting in the canopy, ducts and fan. Readings are taken at set points using the Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) or the Deposit Thickness Test (DTT). From the numbers, you can see whether cleaning is due. Typical jobs include missing TR19 certificates or history and pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean, across access surveys, insurer audits and post-clean checks.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Kitchen extracts in Cooper's Corner
Food hygiene inspections in Cooper's Corner are the job of Rother council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. At about 41 miles from central London, Cooper's Corner sits well inside the area we cover. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours.
Church and community hall kitchens, near Holy Trinity or anywhere around Cooper's Corner, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. A hospital like Ticehurst House Hospital, about 3.6 miles north-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.
Cooper's Corner is about 12 miles north of Hastings, in East Sussex. Signs you need TR19 inspection in Cooper's Corner
When a site in Cooper's Corner changes owner or cleaning contractor, the records don’t always follow. Without them, nobody knows how much grease is in the system or when it was last cleaned.
Look out for these warning signs:
- Missing access panels found on survey
- Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
- Post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean
- Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Bateman's is about 4.7 miles south-west), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.
Questions to ask before booking
- What insurance they carry
- How they set the interval to the next visit
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
- Whether the figure could change on the day
Different parts, different methods
Horizontal duct runs
Sections without access are recorded so panels can be added.
Vertical risers
Vertical risers take the extract up through the floors. Grease can drain down and pool at the bottom, so the base is a key test point.
Questions from Cooper's Corner
Which fire authority looks after Cooper's Corner?
It’s East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Cooper's Corner. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
Who inspects food businesses in Cooper's Corner?
Food hygiene inspections in Cooper's Corner are carried out by Rother council. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
What happens on a pre-clean survey?
We survey, measure and photograph the system first. The survey can be done from photos and details or on site, as suits the job.
What should I send you?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, plus photos of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
What does TR19 mean?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
How do you protect the area?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before we start, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes. Every job is surveyed first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. Then you get a fixed quote.
Do you work out of hours?
Yes, and it’s often the best time. The visit is timed for when the area isn’t in use, such as late evening, overnight or a weekend.
What affects the cost of TR19 inspection
Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- The condition of the system
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.
Helping us quote
What to send for a quote:
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
- The postcode and the type of business
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
How it works
Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Cooper's Corner.
- First we book a time that won’t disrupt cooking.
- Every part of the system is examined, end to end.
- We take WFTT or DTT readings at set points along the system.
- We photograph the test points and record any sections we can’t reach.
- We send a report setting out the readings, photos and next steps.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site

What happens if it’s left?
Skipping grease testing leaves the cleaning interval to guesswork. Any reading of 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning under TR19® Grease, and you can only act on that if you’ve measured it. If the system at a site near Cooper's Corner fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.
Why us?

Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:
- Keep to the recommended interval
- Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
- Never cook with filters missing
- Tell us if menus or opening hours change
For an insurer audit, send them the report as it is, including readings, photos and any inaccessible sections.
Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It shows if build-up is speeding up.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
