Our ductwork cleaning service in East Sussex
The ductwork is where an extract clean is won or lost. Without enough access panels, long stretches can go years without being touched. We open up every reachable section and record any we cannot reach, so you know exactly where you stand. The work covers horizontal duct runs, multi-storey ducts and bends and junctions, and common reasons people get in touch are a grease test showing the duct is overdue and hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs.
The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access, and we clear up before we go.
- Diagnosis: a survey of the duct’s route, size and access.
- A fixed quote follows, based on what we found.
- Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
- We take extra care at bends and at the foot of risers.
- Readings, photos and a recommended next clean date complete the job.

How to get a quote

What’s near Eastbourne
Typical jobs here are in premises near St Andrew, Princes Park and Stafford Junior School. You’ll also find The King's Arms Public House (0.9 miles south-east), WMG Academy for Young Engineers (1.5 miles south-west) and Ratton School (1.1 miles west). For rail, the closest station is Hampden Park station, roughly 0.7 miles north-west. A little further out are Pevensey Castle (3 miles north-east) and Royal Sussex Regimental Museum (1 mile south-east). Open spaces near Eastbourne include Combe Hill.
Ductwork cleaning around East Sussex
Our ductwork cleaning work across East Sussex takes in places such as Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea and the villages in between. Every place on our East Sussex list (289 in all) is covered, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.
In England, the Fire Safety Order puts the duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and a TR19® certificate and photo report give you a record of the work. Along the coast in East Sussex, many hotels, pubs and cafés are at their busiest in the summer, so cleaning is often best booked before or after the peak season.
Eastbourne: If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Andrew or elsewhere in Eastbourne, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. A hospital like Eastbourne District General Hospital, about 0.9 miles west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.
Part by part
Multi-storey and shared buildings
In a shared building, the duct links the kitchen to other spaces, which makes keeping it clean all the more important. The paperwork suits landlords and managing agents.
Vertical risers
Risers often pass through floors and walls, where fire dampers may be fitted. We test those as a separate job.
What staff can safely do
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
What affects the quote in East Sussex
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- How big the system is
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.
What to send for a quote
Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- The postcode and the type of business
We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
Keeping the system healthy
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
- Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
- Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork
- Keep your cleaning records together
Keep the certificate and report with the fire risk assessment. It’s the evidence an insurer or inspector may ask for, and the pictures make the duct’s condition easy to see.
Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.
Multi-site and managed buildings
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
East Sussex questions
How much does ductwork cleaning cost in East Sussex?
It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. For a quote, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us about the site and its opening hours.
Are you accredited?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.
How often should kitchen ducts be cleaned?
At least as often as BESA guidance sets for your cooking hours. Kitchens cooking 12 to 16 hours a day need it at least every 3 months, while lighter use can go longer.
What information do you need?
The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, along with a few pictures and any previous report.
What is TR19?
TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?
Each section is cleaned through its own panel. Heavy grease comes out by hand, and what’s left is degreased, with readings taken before and after.
What happens if there are not enough access panels?
Ductwork needs access to be cleaned. Those parts are listed, and we can install panels so they’re reached next time.
